56K...sucks, don't it?  Thanks Kevin for posting the pics, interesting
solutions with both.

I got unplugged ~1 year ago, from cable-phone.  It sucks.  (moved too far out
for ADSL/cable, so phone it is)

Umm...fluting?  All the side rods I know of are flat, with the lip on the
edge (like a wrench).  Is there another kind, exclusive to euro prototypes,
perhaps?

No, nearly _all_ that I could quickly check (NYC J2, Niagara, Pensy K4, U2
SAR25, DoG, A1, Castle) have fluted con rods.  A quick glance through CN Power
showed about 1/2 of them having fluting. (including some from the 1919 merge to
form CN).  Plus, if you do it right, you can have a fluted and a non fluted
side, and they can be reversable.  (it shouldn't matter which end the con rod
is facing)

Think of why you use a I beam in construction- and realize that most NA locos
were putting out ~200 000 lbs of force at the piston rod...

I'd rather dark red (maroon) than the primary red.  Just a personal thing, I
guess.

Interesting.  You're the second person to suggest that, so I was beginning
to wonder if perhaps there was another common color of driver.

Have you ever cleaned a steam loco?  Lets put it this way- neither of mine have
gleaming wheels...you can tell that Caribou has white edging to the wheels- but
that's about it, behind the layer of steam oil & bits of grass that are stuck
to it.  Brit doesn't have such features (save for the grass stuck on!)

That's why I'd prefer a dimmer red than a bright one-about the only colour that
I think you could represent accurately from a railway is strodly's improved
engine green (use yellow bricks, and it is a fair approximation!)

(...) If you're saying you want maroon to simulate dirtied bright red rather than because it's a prototype, I strenuously disagree. For the most part LEGO(r) has always been about shiny clean stuff. So if the wheels are bright red, bright red is the (...) (22 years ago, 4-Nov-02, to lugnet.trains)
