Agreed, this can be accomplished with the same config as mentioned above.
And those pulley wheels just don't scream "highballer" to me.  They're
barely bigger than the train wheels (well, the model team ones are w/ tires,
but then the valve gear isn't at the edge of the driver).

I know- and real wheels ranged up to 12' something (yes, only on the
GWR...IIRC, the biggest were over 14' dia...Even if most were ~60-80" tall...in
other words, they should be taller than a minifig.

James or Robin S., could you give a link to the Hogwart's Express moc?
Sounds neat.

I can't find an image right now- I'm hindered by my 56K :(

Yeah, I hadn't thought about the pickups, but those would definitely be
awesome.  No more putting motors in the tender, and switchers and tank
engines would be MUCH easier to build.

Yes it would.  I haven't played at making pickups, but I do have a way of
xmitting power to the wheels, in relation to "Ben's" idea of using Playmo
wheels...it solves the rotating shaft/rotating bogie problem (at least, it
should-I haven't tried it with motorizing wheels, due to a lack of time to do
so...)

I think you mean coupling rod bosses here...

umm...what?  I'm afraid I'm not quite sure what a coupling rod boss is.  I'm
talking about the side rods when I refer to valve gear linkages.

Yes, but there was a comment about having axle connectors as well. (axle=
center of wheel, coupling rod boss= bit coupling rod attaches to, eccentric to
wheel center to give "throw")

They both should be Technic pin compatable, with a rod (new piece) made to fit
as a 1/2 wide technic part.  (something thicker than the plate thick technic
steering components- a full 1/2 brick thick, with fluting would be nice, with
spacing to allow for two wheels side by each)

Hmm...hadn't thought about dk. red.  What kind of engine uses dk. red
(question, not sarcasm)?

I'd rather dark red (maroon) than the primary red.  Just a personal thing, I
guess.

(...) Right, like O-Gauge trains have. This is the configuration I'm suggesting when I say this. For those who aren't familiar with O-gauge, this means the motor would attach to the body with the pilot and trailing trucks swinging out. Actually, I (...) (22 years ago, 3-Nov-02, to lugnet.trains)
