Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

How interesting! I've always wondered how the telescoping booms function. I originally thought the individual boom elements could be extended individually, but it appears that one of the elements control the other(s), as you've shown us. It looks (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Micro Scout powered scorpion

Hey gang =) I just put pictures of my Micro Scout powered scorpion up at (URL) The parts mostly came from the Droid Developer kit but I had to throw in a few more gears and some other random parts.   Clock strikes hours

I came up with a Lego implementation of a clock striking device that strikes a bell to indicate the hour. At 1:00, it rings the bell once, at 2:00 it rings the bell twice, etc. It is powered by a weight, and it will play the sequence of hours over (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

(...) What you are thinking of is generally referred to as a "multi stage hydraulic ram", but as far as I can ascertain, that is not how real multi sectioned booms with more than 3 sections work.   Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

Neat! I'd often thought about trying something like this! When I was a kid, (pre-technic!!) I built a gantry crane that used a complex series of cables (string) and pulleys. I only had 1 (4.5V) motor at the time, so all movement had to be controlled (...) (25 years ago, 3-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

I think this is an understatement. I think it would be a huge challenge to build something strong enough. A piano key, however, would be a really cool project.   Re: Any musical instrument?

Hmmm. I imagine a piano action wouldn't be out of the question, either. The main problem I can see is with the strings - if you're looking at 4 octaves, thats 48 fairly tight strings, which is going to put a fair bit of strain on whatever base you (...)
