Up until really last year and the Star Wars sets, I never was a duplicate
set collector. Generally because I could never afford it. I still have the
duplicate boxes of the SW sets, though in buying duplicates of the Shell
sets, I'm only keeping 1 box of each and tossing the rest. The little boxes
are particularly annoying to me because they .won't stay shut. one opened.
(grumble grumble) At least not on their own and I dislike taping boxes shut.
Presently I have one of those metal/particle board self assembled shelves
that cost about 30-40$ set up to store the boxes. The boxes and inner trays
hold my bricks when not in use. It's worked well so far, but now that I'm
beginning to buy quantity rather than just specific sets, I'll have to
figure a better filing and storage system. Any sets that I lack trays for
have been broken down and placed in other larger boxes when possible.
I guess it's the collector in me, but I will .not. get rid of the boxes. For
the alternate models shown (as others have said) and for the fact that to me
it means I still have the 'whole' set regardless of the assimilation of the
bricks into other projects. And I always imagined that when I 'outgrew'
LEGOS (gasp! The horror!) I'd build the sets one last time, break them down,
put them in the boxes and then bring them out for my kids(1) as gifts or
something cheesy like that. But the odds of them ever being put away
are..well. there aren't any. So that idea's gone. Ah well. I'll just have to
buy them new sets.. hmm. now there is a nifty idea... ^_^

(1) Kids aren't a factor yet, so this is really a poor excuse, but it made a
good arguement for keeping them when I was still in school. heh.

| I am getting buried under empty set boxes. Yet I am reticent to throw them away for some reason. Right now I cut up the small ones and store them in the larger ones. Unfortunately, I am running out of space to store the large ones too. (Actually I (...) (24 years ago, 15-Dec-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.storage)
