  Re: Large Quantity sorting?

(...) I use the following categories in large IRIS drawers (counting upwards from the ground): * 1x2 and 2x2 bricks and plates * 1x3 and 2x3 bricks and plates * 1x4 and 2x4 bricks and plates * 1x6, 2x6, 1x12; 4x6 and 6x6 bricks and plates * 1x8, (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jun-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Large Quantity sorting?

(...) I keep my plates of 4x4 und larger in rings. That is, I connect them on one corner or one edge, creating an object. When working, I then have, for example, a ring of 4x6 gray plates from which I peel off plates as needed. Rings can be stacked (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Large Quantity sorting?

(...) Ah, the age old question... I'm still stuck on using bins, for the reasons that I mostly just don't want to sort down to the "all white 1x4's in this box/bin/drawer", and this method is very easy to move...(I've already moved my collection 3 (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Large Quantity sorting?

(...) Shaun, I use the Akron Mills bins for small pieces as you do. I have also used the LEGO buckets (old style work much better than new "anti-helmet" style) as mentioned. However, many years ago, I happened upon some kitchen trash cans (30 qt) (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Large Quantity sorting?

I sort Bricks using LEGO Tubs and Buckets. They are all sorted by type, for really common sizes like 2x4 and 1x4 I usually split up colors. For example I put Red, White, and Blue in one tub Black, Yellow, and Green in another and all other colors in (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Large Quantity sorting?

I've been depriving myself of all LEGO construction the past month in order to finally sort all of my pieces. Using Akro-Mils units, I've just about completed my first run through the sorting process. My question relates to the sorting of bricks, (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: GATS Sneak Peak

(...) Seen in: (2 URLs) getting more and more convinced I need to buy some of that wire rack shelving. Unfortunately, the consumer selection doesn't have the best sizes, but I may check out the restaurant supply store on South Saunders street and (...)   Source of Akro-Mils by mail order...

I don't use Akro-Mils cabinets, myself, but I recently found them in a store that offers mail order. It's a computer parts store called Halted Specialties, in Santa Clara CA. Their phone number is (408)732-1573, and their website is (URL) They have (...) (23 years ago, 26-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) Yes. I have 3 IRIS cabinets of 7 drawers each. [...] (...) The cabinets are about 5 feet tall, and contain 7 drawers each, in three sizes (deep, medium, and shallow). I sit in a chair with a TV table off to one side, where the (...) (23 years ago, 26-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: A simple tray system using storage drawers

(...) Cool... Upside of that is that interior dividers will give the box torsional rigidity!!! Downside is that you have the parts scrabble problem. Anything with square corners is hard to get parts out of. Which is why I am currently enamored of (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: A simple tray system using storage drawers

Yes, I agree box strength varies. (...) One clarification is that I am not using the box to hold trays... so those trays are not there to add torsional rigidity... I am usually using these boxes for things like holding a box full of MOCs to (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: A simple tray system using storage drawers

(...) An inexpensive hot glue gun and plenty of glue sticks might solve this problem. For me, I use hot glue liberally to reinforce boxes when they are new--sometimes even un-gluing flaps that were glued at the Lego factory. In fact, I use so much (...)   Re: A simple tray system using storage drawers

(...) I really don't think you're unlucky. Hmm.. I have noticed that the 5561 Model Team box is exceptional compared with others I've used. This includes 8277 Giant Model Set (very bad one), 6097 Night Lord's Castle (pretty bad one), 5988 Pharaoh's (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: A simple tray system using storage drawers

Thanks Suzanne! Very helpful. I snipped it but I have one question. I have found the 5561 and other boxes to be not all that strong. I use a razor to slice the display window cardboard off so the tape doesn't rip the cardboard and weaken it, then I (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

A simple tray system using storage drawers

This is a tray system I use for LEGO building at home sometimes. Whether or not this method would work for you, of course depends on the type of building you do and how you like to work, etc. But I thought it may be of interest to some people whose (...)   Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

Just hanging off of Larry's post semi-randomly.... Some thoughts on storage and building: My storage scheme is that parts which sort into a large volume get stored in Hefty One-Zip freezer weight bags, and then get stored in tubs and drawers of (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: 2 x4 brick down drain

(...) yeah, pretty sure. A lot of water has gone down the drain since then. What makes it so bad is that the drain was slow this morning, Gary plunged it - all the while, he teased me that it was probably a brick down the drain. It wasn't then, it (...)   Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) Yeah, spread-out space is important. But it doesn't have to be fancy. Even if one has a flip-down table-top, it'd a big help. My Dad built a train table like that - it flipped up against the wall when not in use. I've seen sewing tables like (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-01, to lugnet.storage)
