What makes a minifig? —Tim Saupé
I am curious, as I don't have an extensive knowledge of LEGO. Sebulba is a "piece", and characters that are made of parts like Pit Droids or Gasgano are not minifigs. Could someone make sense of all of it? Tim (25 years ago, 10-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Jeff Johnston
(...) I think this one came up a while ago...you might want to search the archives. Anyway, "If memory serves me correctly", here's what was generally agreed upon: Minifigs are made of minifig torsos, minifig heads, and minifig legs. Nobody argued (...)          Re: What makes a minifig? —David Eaton
(...) Well, that wasn't quite his point-- his point was that IF it contains a minifig torso, minifig head, and minifig legs (used in a 'minifig way' [implied]) THEN it is *definitly* a minifig. He wasn't making any statements about candidates that (...) (25 years ago, 10-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Eric Joslin
(...) There was a big conversation about this a while back. What it all boils down to is personal judgement, really. In my view, Pit Droids aren't "minifigs", nor is Sebulba. It is tempting for me to say that what draws the line for me is legs and (...) (25 years ago, 10-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Jeff Johnston
(...) Actually, some of them do...the ones in the Time Twisters sets had legs, as do the ones from the DACTA Castle set. There's not much *point* in them having legs, because of the body cover...but they're there. I think a better example would be (...) (25 years ago, 10-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Tony A. Rowe
(...) I was recently informed that his name is "Crankey". Just thought I'd share. In my book, he's no minifig. He's a minifig head with a structure of pieces attached to it. I'd say that he is no more a minifig than the skeleton head/crystal ball in (...) (25 years ago, 10-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —James Simpson
(...) I think that it is subjective. Part of the grey areas of the question can only be defined by the individual possessing the parts in question. For example, I keep a spreadsheet inventory of my sets, minifig numbers, costs, etc.... One of my (...) (25 years ago, 12-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Thomas Weigle
(...) I count them as minifigs too, not because of their splendid personality, but because of their character-like appearance... I'm not a purist when it comes to parts, really (although I do agree about Sebulba & the "thrown-together" Gasgano). As (...) (25 years ago, 12-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —James Simpson
(...) Regarding the judgment errors on the part of the Trade Federation, check out this link: (URL) say that the real judgment error was a poorly-developed plot. I think that Lucas gets himself into some tight spots in terms of plot, and then just (...) (25 years ago, 13-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Toki Barron
Do some of the Lego Battle Droids have ranks? I know that there are certain colors that signify that, but as far as the Droids included in the sets go, they are all just grunts, right? I don't have the Naboo Swamp, but I have a bunch of Battle (...) (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —David Low
(...) Assuming you don't want to paint your Lego, I replaced the tan 1x2 on their back with a yellow, red or blue 1x2 plate, giving an instant Command Officer, Security Droid or Pilot Droid. --Dave (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Toki Barron
(...) Huh. None of my Battle Droids came with a 1x2 plate for their backs. There are a couple of studs to which I can attach a plate, but no plate came with the Naboo Fighters that I have. Did you get your Battle Droids with this set or another one? (...) (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —David Low
(...) Sorry, I got mine in Naboo Swamp; check (URL) you can just see the plates on their back. Are there any Ep1 experts out there who have an explanation for the discrepancy? --Dave (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Cameron Tattersall
(...) Yeah. The BD's with backpacks aren't aboard the Droid Control Ship, so they need transmitter packs to keep functioning. As stated elsewhere, the BD's from the Naboo Fighter are in the DCS Hangar (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Thomas Weigle
(...) Actually, the standard issue trooper battle droids ALWAYS wear the backpacks. None of the other droid types wear them at any time. Most of the droids that you see on the DCS & all droids on the other TF ships are either security, pilots or (...) (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Toki Barron
(...) Thanks for the info, Dave. I hadn't realized there was a difference between the Battle Droids in the Naboo Swamp set and those in the Naboo Fighter set. I may have to pick up a Naboo Swamp set next time they go on sale. Up until now, I didn't (...) (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) It's also got a bunch of brown 2x4 bricks and a very nice 6x16 blue plate--I snap these up whenever I can find them for <$6. Now, I fear, the MTT is going to become my Great Love for Plates. :) Dark grey and brown...sooooo very many.... best (...) (25 years ago, 17-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Chris Maddison
(...) Aye, the 1x2's are supposed to be backpacks. The Naboo Swamp set is supposed to be around the same period in the movie as when the Trade Federation Army assaulted Naboo (when fighting the Gungans.) Those Battle droids had backpacks, and since (...) (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) I think "TECHNIC Figures" is the accepted term, but there may be another (I've heard "maxifig" used colloquially). best LFB (25 years ago, 17-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: What makes a minifig? —Jonathan Wilson
(...) AFAIK maxifig refers to the really old bendy arm type people used in e.g. the homemaker sets. (25 years ago, 17-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)
