Okay STOP!
This whole dang thing is WAY out of proportions.
1: Wal-Mart and other stores reserve the right to refuse returns and
implicitly state this regarding collectables. Conversely they also accept
returned merchandise without a receipt KNOWING full well that some merch.
may come from other stores considering that they DO NOT have a complete
monopoly on retail purchases.
2: "Matt" and the thousands of others who have done this are given store
credit of equal value to the lowest recorded sale price within a period of
30 to 90 days. So in our sit. here "Matt" uses two $49.99 Slave 1 sets to
achieve credit of equal dollar amount to make a purchase ONLY at Wal-Mart.
This is called an EXCHANGE. He forfeits the ability to get any cash or a
credit card refund in this EXCHANGE. Wal-Mart and other stores know that he
is now going to buy something else in the store, heck he may even go to the
clearance aisle!!! Point is that his credit is equal value to the items
sold at the store that he returned.
3: Wal-Mart and other stores can check the sales history (and do) of the
items "Matt" has returned. They can tell if two of this item were purchased
from their or another store in the network at any time in a period they
choose. They could see that Slave 1 was purchased and allow that "Matt" may
in fact have these items and wish to return them. "Oh you forgot your
receipt?" Well in the interest of keeping "Matt" happy as a valuable
customer they will simply record his DL# and allow three no receipt returns
per year. That keeps anybody from taking advantage of their generous
returns policy.
4: Fraud!? Only if "Matt" opened 'em and replaced the contents with
plastic spoons!!!!
5: Criminal behavior?!? I suggest you go back to your communist country
where no one has the right to shop for better prices and there is to retail
competition. Free market is what we have here and Wal-Marts of America are
quite aware that this happens whenever somebody has a sale. Any customer
service manager that steps up and says, " We're gonna give you half of what
we sell it for cause Target has them on sale is an idiot and will get
reprimanded by his/her superior for badgering the customer.
Bottom line is "Matt" scored a fair deal in our retail economy and could not
possibly be called a criminal for this unless you happen to be the King.
And you (ALL of us on LUGNET) are not.
Quit throwing abuse around just because people say this or that, please.
"For it is the doom of men that they forget." <Merlin; Excalibur>

| So I suppose on the loss scale it goes like this. Target loses very little, other than making a foolish sale to HMMM. Walmart loses a little more, whatever the profit on two Slave I's they would've made, and if they have to put any Slave I's on sale (...) (23 years ago, 24-May-02, to lugnet.starwars)

This reminds me of the (I think) Groucho Marx story: He asked a woman, "Will you sleep with me for a (...) (23 years ago, 24-May-02, to lugnet.starwars)
