I don't wanna break my toys.

You have the option not to do so by making super modules.
Or 1/9 of a super module, or anything in between...there are always
options.  That's what I love about all this!

The 48 x 48 baseplate investment should be affordable for most at $10. If you
can't afford that then perhaps you should not spend the money to go to a
gathering either? Still, point taken.
For me, it's not economic so much as personal preference...I can afford the
plates, but I don't like the idea of breaking them up.  I'd rather use the
pieces the way they are in some way, like a super-mod, or some part thereof.
I'm not completely against modifying one's Lego pieces, but if there's a way to
make things without doing so, I prefer that in my own modelling.
I haven't had the good fortune to go to any gatherings yet, but maybe one
day I will.  I just like the concept, and this spin on it (the mini-moonbase
idea) is another cool option to play with and bring people togther.

Corridor connections are a technic 1x2 brick with a centered hole, centered
on the edge of the baseplate with a minimum 2-stud setback.
But what about the little Mini-Minifigs?  3 bricks between levels I agree
with for a level height, and this gives enough room for a little person made of
a 1x1 brick topped by a 1x1 square plate (legs and torso, respectively) topped
by a 1x1 round plate (head).  IMHO, it would be more fun to have little
people/aliens/minicritters running around the Mini-Moonbase area.

Anders used people like these in his modules, I opted for this by Brian Musaz:

Hey, those are COOL!  Nice little people!
I only meant to point out that it's possible to use corridor connectors
scaled to the size of the micro-minifigs we'd be putting in there, the same as
the full-scale moonbase specs, so they could have the same opportunity to move
around and have fun.  Micro-minifigs have feelings, too!  *>)

Also, the new brick found in the X-pod sets should come in handy building
civilian indoor guys:

     Can't wait to get some!
     Hope you're having fun!

Peace and Long Life,
