I think it would be coolest (and most helpful) if the docs were in a
super-portable format, either PDF or, heck, just darn plain old HTML.

please no PDF

(smile)  I never should have written "either ... or" above.  =:*)

Certainly, since there is demand for both PDF and HTML forms of the docs,
and since the HTML form will just happen no matter what, and MarkT has
offered to create the PDF form from some other form, both could be offered
and the user could choose which one is most appropriate for him/her in a
given circumstance of usage.

it is portable but a pain to read on a screen and I've
always thought that it was easier to read api documentation on your computer
screen since this is were you work

I kind of feel that way too.  But heck, I'd probably really enjoy both --
HTML for reading online and PDF for printing.  (I do love PDF's, but I don't
enjoy reading them online much, even at 1600x1200 with antialiasing, because
they're not hypertext and individual pages aren't bookmarkable within the
web browser and I actually like scrolling through big tall pages anyway. :)

HTML would be great because it could easily go on the CD-ROM (if there
is one)

Also if you could have a explaination on how to install the related tools
for non linux machine it would be nice.
BTW if there is something on legos in the mindstorm O'reilly book (which I
really hope) this would be a very definite reason for a cd rom to be needed,
legos itself is small but downloading all the development environment on a
28800 modem in a country where you pay every minutes of every local
communication thanks to the national telecom company monopoly is NOT a nice
experience (even assuming the download works the first time)

Mmm, yes.  What then is a typical connection charge for 15 minutes of online
time?  I don't know how it is in the U.K., but in the U.S. most modem-dialup
Internet service providers in large cities today charge a flat fee of US$20-
$30 per month for unlimited access or relatively low fees for hourly-metered
access.  Are dialup charges in European countries so high that one has to
monitor one's online time closely and make difficult decisions about what
and what not to download?  A 1-megabyte file (compressed) would take about 6
minutes to download on a 28.8 modem...does that work out to something pretty
expensive?  How does that compare to the purchase price of the MindStorms
RIS overall?
