    Scout secrets revealed —Eric Brok
Excuse the tabloid heading, but when I investigated undocumented behavior of the Scout last night, I hit onto some surprising features. See the preliminary report on LEGO on my mind. Highlights: - overview of RCX-triggered responses - wipe the dust (...) (25 years ago, 28-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Scout secrets revealed —Robert Eddings
(...) Great information Eric! I had noticed that the red light pulsed but it did not occur to me that it could be a coded message. If I could get a scan of Code Pilot Code Card, I would like to do some experiments to see if and what codes the Scout (...) (25 years ago, 28-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Scout secrets revealed —Ralph Hempel
(...) Looks like Eric got his batteries recharged at Mindfest! Hmmm, if we have pre-programmed abilities in the Scout, maybe we can make networks of scouts to make a distributed control system? Think of a conveyor system with a scout driving the (...) (25 years ago, 28-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Scout secrets revealed —Todd Lehman
(...) I seem to remember some wristwatches a few years ago that you could download information to by holding them up to the computer monitor. To program it, you didn't actually have to drag the watch in front of the screen -- you could just keep it (...) (25 years ago, 28-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Scout secrets revealed —Robert Eddings
I tried a little experiment on this.... The Scout light sensor can be "trained" by turning it off and then back on in a low light environment to show it what a low light reading is. Note: this can also be done by turning it on while a bright light (...) (25 years ago, 28-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Scout secrets revealed —Eric Brok
Additional observations: - at the start of any program, the Scout emits barcode 004 which triggers a 'steam puff' sound in the Code Pilot (if it's in record mode). The Scout seems to emit no other barcodes (but motor left, motor right, motor float (...) (25 years ago, 29-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Scout secrets revealed —Eric Brok
Even som more Additional observations: - I made up a program to blink a spot on a computer screen as if it where a barcdode, but didn't succeed in triggering either the Code Pilot or the Scout. Don't know if it's fundamental or just in execution. - (...) (25 years ago, 1-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

          Site--Comments? —David Pfeffer
Hi All, For the ThinkQuest 2000 contest (www.thinkquest.com or org, i forget which) I was putting together a Mindstorms site with a group of two friends. I was wondering what people on the the newsgroup/list thought of the site in its under (...) (25 years ago, 1-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

One comment: rainbow-colored text is irritating and difficult to read. IMHO, it's better to stick with one color for text and another for links. -John Van David Pfeffer <lego-robotics@crynwr.com> wrote in message news:NCBBLOCOMLLOOAB...Nik.com... (...)           Re: Scout secrets revealed —Robert Munafo
Sorry Eric -- the frames just take up too way much space in the window (over 50 percent!). Most of the time when I visit such a heavily framed site, I have to use the "Open frame in New Window" command just to read the content. I posted the URL to (...)           Re: Scout secrets revealed —Paul Speed
(...) Strictly speaking, not true. A large page with navigation along the top is much better for those with limited screen real estate than a large page in a frame with a navigation frame at the top. Without frames, as soon as the user scrolls down (...) (25 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Scout secrets revealed —Eric Brok
Points taken. (...) Main reason for that (I think) is the bookmark/url problem, which indeed started this thread. But it is possible to use frames that *are* bookmarkable[1]. I don't use on my site because of some technical issues, but I would (...) (25 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I don't have the Scout, but I have a funny feeling that the Micro Scout may also respond to these commands when it is in that "P" mode. Could somebody verify this? Thanks, Hao-yang Wang (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Scout secrets revealed —Mario Ferrari
Hi Eric, thanks for digging into the Scout and revealing all those amazing features! Last Sunday at the Mindfest I met a Lego representative who confirmed that there's much more than most of people image packed into the Scout. He told me they're (...)
