No, they're actually fairly different.

  Cybermaster                   Mindstorms
-----------------------------------------------------
Designed for "play"           Designed for inventing
Two built in motors           Two external motors
No motor/light outputs (?)    Three outputs to wire to motors or lights
  Three inputs                  Three inputs
Radio link to PC              Ir link to PC

It's not clear yet how compatible the internals are. Current alternative
development tools for Mindstorms _don't_ seem to work with Cybermaster.

2.  Has anyone gotten the Extreme Creatures expansion set yet?  If so, care
to give a review?  Lego website doesn't have much in the way of practical
info.

I don't have it, but I've seen it, and I'd give it pretty poor marks, unless
you're looking for (not very many) decorative pieces.

Besides, the CM cd-rom encompasses an extensive and impressive 'computer game' sort of adventure, with lots of computeranimatons, like a LEGO ISLAND cd-rom title in itself. Very well done; must have been a work of labor for the production team. Eric (...) (26 years ago, 8-Oct-98, to lugnet.robotics)

Hello All! I'm kicking around the idea (pretty seriously) of finally picking up a Mindstorms, and had a few questions: 1. MS vs CM; are they essentially the same except where the program is stored and executed? If so, what kind of range are we (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-98, to lugnet.robotics)
