Hello Kevin, you know I love the Brickshelf Gallery. I try my best to abide by
the rules. However, I speak english and some of the users from around the world
dont.
I would like to ask you to please ease up on marking folders as Avatar.
Hear me out.
This is a prime example:

This user is a valued member of the Mecha Building community and english is not
his first language. Perhaps they/he simply desnt understand the TOS as it
relates to marking a folder as Avatar by the Brickshelf administration.
Like wise, I see folks posting a single graphic from the 1000steine Lego Event
to act as the header icon and it gets marked as Avatar.
Please consider easing up on this policy.
Some folks from around the world may not understand how to add additional key
words in english to better provide key word descriptions. They simply dont
speak english.
Well anyway, one of my folders called Mecha-Tech keeps getting marked as
Avatar too. Thing is I also dont understand what I am doing wrong.
It seems so invariable. One day it is on the recent page. I work on a new image
and upload it and it is marked Avatar. Then I upload another image and
everything is fine and it is on the recent page, then back to avatar...
Again, with thanking you for Brickshelf, I am just trying to understand this
process so I can better abide by the TOS for the site I frequent.
Lastly, please consider easing up on the marking of folders as Avatar.
The example I cited above by Brickshelf user Izzo, is a valuable member of the
Mecha Building community. Shunting his folder off the recent and Mecha section
pages hides the contribution he makes to the community. All because he made a
small header graphic to represent his work?
The policy of allowing a .jpg or image file to represent a mutimedia file folder
like videos ie. .mpeg & .avis seems prudent to give the browser a feel for what
is contained in the folder. Perhaps this is a good idea for a body of work
similar to Izzos. He developed a system and is proud of it. Proud enough to
create an art work header icon to represent the system and building technology
he has created. We should lift that up, not hide it.
Thank you Kevin, thank you for Brickshelf. Please consider this policy revision.
Or at least some compassion for peoples hard work and creativity.
Avatars and Icons definetly need to be off the recent page. There have even been
other community members that have expressed an interest to only see raw pictures
and no generated header icons. I understand that. I am only suggesting some
flexibility. Either way I respect your decision considering the magnatude of the
moderation job each day.
As for the rest of the community, Id like to hear what you think, but for the
love of the brick, lets not argue, lets discuss.
Thank you,
Eric Sophie

P.S. If I didnt check the Avatar section to see if my Mecha-Tech folder was
marked Avatar (arrrrg again), I would have missed Izzos folder, and wow, I am
glad I caught it, he has made an excellent creation. A creation that can help
others to learn more. Adios.

| snip Eric, Did you contact Izzo about this before posting? If you had you would have found that he doesn't care and would rather his stuff falls off the recent page as he prefers his work to be spotlighted on MechaHub and his own blog and website. (...) | Pardon, Rene, but I actually have an answer to the original question. (...) I spoke with Kevin Loch at BF today, and he stated he had not seen this thread yet. He told me that the tagging of folders as Avatar is based strictly on the first image in (...) (18 years ago, 26-Aug-06, to lugnet.publish, lugnet.general)
