James responded quite nicely and set FUT .debate. I'm not sure that was
appropriate since it means we won't hear from Scott, since he doesn't post
to .debate (his loss, I guess) but I followed suit.
Tony, I think the club members had come to quite a nice accomodation, to
wit, that club members would be getting together to do this but not "flying
the MICHLUG banner" as it were, because MICHLUG does not and should not
support one religion in preference of another. (and supporting a fund raiser
for *retreats* is, make no mistake about it, supporting one religion)...
Were I you, I would accept that accomodation. It's one I can live with, as
well as everyone else, except, apparently, yourself. The alternative is to
debate this until you realise the error of your ways. Is it worth that
discord? I don't think so.
One clarification, mostly snipped.

But you are indeed doing just that.

Time is money. Putting on shows takes time.

Which you have said you want to be *4 times* the size of Novi. If you think
that putting something that large together is free of effort you are confused.
If you think that this show benefits the club rather than the club
exhibiting being a draw *for* the show, you are *very* confused.
Any time a LEGO club exhibits at a show, it's a draw for that show. That is,
it has economic value TO THE SHOW. GATS makes up for that by paying
appearance money. If this organization paid the club appearance money, then
MAYBE it would not be a donation to the organization on the part of the club
to do it. But it would have to be a lot of appearance money for it not to be
a donation by the club. More than GATS pays since we get more benefit from
exhibiting at GATS than at this show.
Again, I think if members want to do this, great. If they want to mention
that there exists a club, great. But I would vote against doing this AS A
CLUB. Subtle but important distinction. You got several members saying they
want to help. Be satisfied with that.

| (...) Chris is right. The club should not be some snob fest. (Oh we dont put on shows for them.) Im asking anyone who might like to show off his/her Legos. Im not asking for someone to support the Catholic Church. If the person did that, then (...) (24 years ago, 30-Apr-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)
