Actually, I had numerous questions about the DCC setup, but I saw in a post
that some information was going to be posted about it, so I held my
questions until it was posted, but here goes:

How much labor (time) is required to convert a Lego Train motor to DCC?
How much do the parts cost and how much is the controller?
How many different trains can be run before addressing and/or power drain
problems occur?
How are multiple motors on one loco (or 2 DCC enabled locos on one train)
handled?  Do they share the same address (not sure if that is the proper
term) or is it even possible?
Can you change that address easily (to allow 2 or more motors to accept the
same commands)?
Is there the option to send a DCC command to turn on the power plate section
of the motor to operate other things, like moving people or rotate a
searchlight?

I actually haven't had much time to look at the pictures of the Wamalug
set-up.  I have only gone through about half of them.

I had seen Matt Bates info on DCC, but with my plate currently about as full
as an offensive lineman's plate at Home Town Buffet, I cannot really invest
the time to set it up on my embryonic layout.

As for the critique, I see that there are about 200 pictures and mpgs to
look at.  Plus, much of that has to be assimilated for a few days.  Your
first post came on Monday.  I have spent my last 2 nights at home sorting
bricks and watching B5 on tape with my wife, so I haven't really gotten to
look at them as intently as I have wanted.

One thing I would like to see, but haven't mentioned it to Kevin Loch yet,
is for .mpg files to show a thumbnail of a scene out of the movie, either
the first one or one from the middle, which should give an idea of what you
are downloading.

Why has there been such apathy towards Wamalug's train shows?  In the past
month, there have been a total of nine messages from non-members about our
setups.  There has been absolutly no discussion, no critiques, and very • little
praise.  Do you all just not care?  Does everyone think we aren't good • enough
to even deign to speak to us?  Heck, we've even mentioned (twice) we
successfully had DCC in our setups, and there is hardly a peep.  I've seen • tons
of messages asking how to do it in the past year, and when it *is* done, • no one
cares.  I'm sorry, but since there seems to be no interest, I am seriously
considering discontinuing these types of posts.

As you may've heard, WAMALUG displayed a layout at The Great American • Train
Show held over the weekend in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  It was a *huge*
success, and we tied for Third place (out of seven or so).  We had one of • the
largest crowd draws, with some people hanging around for hours or • revisting us
a number of times.  Anyway, some of the major highlights of the show • included:

~ Digital Command Control of the trains!  This was fun, allowing us to
individually crash, er *control* the trains, even on the same loop!
~ Larger layout!  It was 120"x160", but this time we had a 120"x200" • layout!
~ Motorized Crane!  Not only was it motorized, It like to do aerial
acrobatics!  Like, falling over...  ;)
~ Attack of the 50 foot Minifig!
~ Rich Schamus' Blue Streak and Citrus Express!
~ Long Metroliner!
~ People saying it was the best layout at the show!
~ The double wide Train Bridge!
~ A kid offering to buy my Castle!  After he was told it wasn't for • sale, I
decided to price it at $40,000.  :)
~ The elevator in Rich's Tower plumeting to the bottom, eliminating the
annoying protesters on board...  :)

(...) Great Idea! Does anyone know of an open source mpeg/quicktime library to grab the images with? KL (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.org.us, lugnet.org.us.wamalug)

Hi Mike, (...) We had five trains and six(maybe seven) moters running on the layout without any significant problems. Our DCC system could only support five addresses. (...) My GP-35 had two moters attached to it, both assigned to the same address. (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.org.us, lugnet.org.us.wamalug)
