I'd love to do a contest like this again.  Maybe modify it at little to change
things up, but keep the basic concept the same.

I was thinking for a tougher contest, beyond this one, we could turn the board
up on its side, and stack the blocks.  So we would have 8 black blocks and 8
white blocks and they would be randomly arranged in 4 stacks of 4.  Your bot
would then have to move the blocks around in the stacks until it formed the X
pattern with one colour of blocks.  This would be trickier because you would
have to manage gravity as well.

I know I mentioned this to you at the competition, Derek, but for the others:
there

is an easy way to get reliable readings from the light sensors. Just buy a
Lego light, and stick it on top of the light sensor. Those lights are
surprisingly bright with the reflector that focuses the beam. They make the
light sensor values incredibly consistent! I have run my robot in my dark
basement, upstairs, shown it to friends at school, and at the competition
without adjusting my light sensor threshold at all. So, just a thought for
future light sensor applications.

Yes this is definitely good idea.  I've modified my bot and added two lights
beside the light sensor.  It alleviates a lot of the ambient light problems.
There still seems to be something strange happening with light sensors and lejos
but I haven't been able to figure out a consistent behaviour.

Derek

(...) omgoodness!! I love this idea! It'll have to be done with multiple RCX's fer sure! We use the 4 stud cubes that we used for block stacking/sorting, et al... White and Black, and see what happens! Oh so many ideas!!! Dave (23 years ago, 26-Feb-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
