(...) Why did you not choose to be a craftsman and fix the problem correctly? The true craftsman makes the back side of the dresser just as good as the front, it matters not that there is no one to see it, for the craftsman would know, and be (...)   Y2K bug in action

Discovered and squashed a Y2K-related problem today. The weekly full backup on our (soon to be decommissioned but still limping along) VMS failed, complaining "Volume label too long." Turns out that the volume label for a tape must be six letters or (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Help needed with Front Page

I am looking for some help with what seems to be a simple task. I am trying to re-install my master Front Page web file that contains my Minifig Museum of Art. I saved my "web" on a zip disk and then did a complete re-install of Windows and Explorer (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: KDE/new Redhat install (was Re: Has anyone ever been)

(...) Very similar to my situation, actually. My friend wanted to start an ISP so he could have net access after college and not have to pay for it. There was a time a few years ago when it was possible. 56K modems really raise the bar, though; it (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
