Dogs don't know any better.  They didn't 10,000+ years ago, and they won't know

I think you're misinterpreting my analogy... Man Bites Dog is an old cliche for
the "unexpected news event"... you sort of (at this point) expect Mugabe to burn

NB unexpected is not the same as uncommon!
