Don't give up on your GIFT. You have the ability to apparently do both
painting & Lego, & do them very well. I'm new to Lugnet/AFOL community, mostly
"lurking" & gernerally being impressed & helped in my Lego ability. I am
SOMETIMES able to do Lego & SOMETIMES able to do my drawings, both of which
i've been told I do very well & they are my FAVORITE things to do. I usually
can't do either without severe stress though because i suffer from a severe
obsessive compulsive disorder. I had 3 great years of drafting at a timber
frame buisiness-residential architecture, my favorite type of architecture. I
lost that job in apr. 2001 because I began "locking up" so bad I couldn't draw
(one of my favorite things to do.) I now work at wal-mart for about half of
what i was making before. I also have done 3 technic scale buildings in what
i was hoping would be a fun project of a technic town (& hopefully a mech &
spaceship). It takes me about an hour to do what should be a 15 min. set. I
feel bad 'cause I haven't posted my MOC's to Brickshelf (again, because of the
stress)--not for "wow's", but just to share. I haven't been able to do any
Lego lately (last month or two) "real" or cad, because of the obsession. I
also tell myself to leave Lego/drawing or whatever I'm trying to do. Why stick
with it? Because it's worth it & I know I will get better & enjoy Lego &
drawing even more! I did some of my best stuff before this recent bout, partly
because of great inspiration from Lugnet, specifically because of AFOL
creations. But I know I will work through this. I'm even considering going to
brickfest this year with some of my technic scale buildings, 'cause I want to
make myself get "back into the groove." I honestly hope you don't see this as
more "obsessive whining" because I honestly mean this as real encouagement.
The only suggestion I could make is to leave your collection @ a friends or
relative's house, far enough to make it impractical to distract you (for a
couple months or so), but close enough to afterwards get the collection back
again without massive travel hassles, etc. I would almost suggest this: I'll
promise to work on my stuff to get better if you do the same. I'm not trying
to brag about my MOC's, I'm just trying to give you mutual support to convince
you of this: "Don't give up on your GIFT."
