OK, the monorail it is then (it may have grown by then as I have two more
trains in the post!)
I'll map it out again tonight and indicate where 16x16 baseplates (or
multiples for 16x32, 32x23 and 48x48) would reasonably fit if other people
want to supply buildings.
I'll also push myself to build some stations, etc

| Hi, I've mapped the monorail track I can build on three 6 feet by 2 feet 6 tables and worked out where standard size baseboards would fit, see here - (URL) can supply all the track and two trains which will either run both at the same time on their (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)
