That's great that you have some things to bring along. The monorail
especially would look even better if it were displayed with buildings,
roads, etc. Could people please let me know if they have anything they can
bring, even if it is only some base plates. I don't know about anyone else,
but I'd really like to put together a nice town layout. There will also be
plenty of track available - so bring those trains, too!

I have put a lot of thought into the issue of selling at Piece by Piece, so
I apologise if I have left it a little late. I originally wanted to follow
the usual course with toy fairs and charge a fee for a table, normally
starting at £25. Since Piece by Piece is a new event which has yet to prove
that dealers can make enough money to justify such a sum, I'll be looking
instead to charge a £10 dealer fee, which will entitle people to one table
each and as many other tables which are free after the displays have been
sorted out. For those who just want to bring along a few items for sale or
trade, I'll be providing a stall where they can display what they have
brought at no cost - as long as there are some volunteers to look after the
table during the day.

Why a dealer charge? It is standard to charge for table to help claw back
the cost of running the event. I'm paying out £200 for the venue (In a prime
position), £160 for national advertising (Model Mart Magazine)and a day's
wages for a security man (He's a judo black belt and really looks the part).
I'm only charging £2 for entry (Which again is about average for a toy
fair)so to make this kind of event pay for itself, a dealer charge is vital.
I'll be informing Hot Tickets and Time Out magazine, so they can include
Piece by Piece in their "What's on" listings, so who knows who may turn up.

If anyone thinks that a dealer charge is unfair, please let me know. Buying
and selling is a huge part of any Lego event, so the last thing I want to do
is drive people away. Everyone, let me know what you think.

Craig Stevens.

What do you need to know?

I am planning on attending and bringing my mini-excavator and bobcat (based
on Jen Clark's models) -
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=124640 and
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=132219

I could also bring
EITHER one of my castle/pirates mocs -
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=15803 and
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=14522 (which would appeal to
children and/or adults with children as they are "playable")
OR my monorail - http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=235871.
BUT the monorail would need a fairly large area (about 8 feet by 6 feet) and
would look better for a few buildings (anybody feel like contributing)

regards

William

PS - I also have some new parts I was thinking of bagging up for sale - what
are the "rules" on selling at an event like this?

(...) OK, the monorail it is then (it may have grown by then as I have two more trains in the post!) I'll map it out again tonight and indicate where 16x16 baseplates (or multiples for 16x32, 32x23 and 48x48) would reasonably fit if other people (...) (22 years ago, 13-Sep-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)
