I'll have a stab at providing some ideas for groundrules, to use as working
parameters (warning: this post will be boring to those disinterested. give
up now...). Please combine my ideas with any others you receive.
1. Audience.
As I see it, there will be the interests of 2 main types of visitor to cater
for:
a. Browsers, perhaps just coming out of dark ages, who have either found or
been recommended LUGNET, have surfed from main->local->UK and then clicked
on the UKLUG link provided on the page http://news.lugnet.com/loc/uk/
b. AFOLs who are revisiting, maybe via a bookmark, to get fest updates, etc.
2. Resources.
The type a) visitors will need a very basic explanation that we know and
understand why they are here, and they are not alone. A welcoming
introduction (keynote speech) to who we are and what we get up to, our aims
and purposes, and how they can get involved if they want to. Then some
further areas such as collecting, storing, insuring, building etc.
The type b) visitors will just want hard facts/diary updates/plans.
So ideally, the site would be such that both these needs are met.
FAQ section? - as it relates to the UK. eg Q: What is the LEGO scene like in
the UK? Does anyone do trains? How do I find out about fests? Tips when
visiting LLW? What specialist shops are there? etc etc
Links - TLG, brickshelf, brickbay, brickset, lugmag, Busy Bee, old fests,
new fests, euro fests(?), ...
3. Housekeeping.
Don't forget to include the standard 'not affiliated to TLG' blurb.
HTH,
Phil.
