Especially if you divide the price by the total number of bricks, which is
the standard practice (and the one which I use). Nevertheless, assigning a
white 1x8 the same value as a blue 1x1 doesn't make for a fair comparison.
With bulk bricks, there is (almost) no wastage. Even in the soccer buses,
the most useful of all sets (if you like train windows, which I do), you get
stuck with a soccer ball and a Timmy head.

There's still a small stack of them at my local K Mart, which I contemplate
from time to time.

I'm quite looking forward to Creator - there are some good pieces in
there... except for the figs, and the doors, and the wheels. (Hmmm... this
sounds a bit like "what have the Roman's ever done for us?")

Yes. Some train doors would be nice. (Also tiles).
