Another Kick In The Guts By LA

Yesterday while on the phone to LA about order some pieces I asked the question I think everyone asks when on the phone to LA how long on LD with an answers of oh about mid-year, but no that wasn't the answer I got this time, I was told that LD (...) (24 years ago, 18-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA

(...) Well, that about settles it...if LD can get up and running in so many countries so quickly, and then turn around and say that 'there are some "technical issues" that we haven't sorted out'[1] or other comments along similar lines when they HAD (...)   Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA

(...) Maybe Lego Australia don't appreciate the potential demand. If we (lugnet.loc.au) could quantify how much we'd buy *immediately* and sent them a letter saying that we would immediately place orders to the value of x thousand dollars (and cc it (...)   Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA

(...) Sounds like a good idea maybe we should look into it a bit more and "immediately" stat doctor! (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.dear-lego)

Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) Guys guys guys. I think Lego do have a fair idea of what this is worth, and that's why they aren't stressed. True as it is that we each spend waaaaaay too much on ABS, there really aren't that many of us. I'm sure I read some research over in (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) True. (...) Also true. In addition I'm not likely to spend (much) more if LD is available - I'd just be directing purchases away from sets on the shelves (generally when the sets are discounted of course). Of course, I'd probably be prepared (...) (24 years ago, 20-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Let's find out

(...) I worked out some numbers for myself. I spend in the order of AU$600 a year maybe. If everyone else in Loc.au spends TWICE that in a year (which is a borderline unreasonble assumption) thats AU$27,000. Near as I figure that's the value of (...) (24 years ago, 21-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Let's find out

(...) If they advertise a bit they'd surely get instant sales. All it'd require is a 30second timeslot on some crappy TV show saying "Lego now available online and by phone". Lego itself doesn't need to sell its name, its already trusted and true (...) (24 years ago, 21-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Let's find out

Yeah I agree with some of what has been said (below) and all this to me would be as bad for me as someone who Gambles heh! There will be and most likely be a few items that we ALL have wished for (maybe not now but later on atleast)and really wanted (...) (24 years ago, 21-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Let's find out

(...) [snip] (...) It seems the potential demand is not looking like changing the way LA operates. Including a Sopwith Camel :-), I can probably come up with an order of about US$100, which is probably over a quarter of my annual Lego budget, and (...) (24 years ago, 21-May-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) Well...on the basis of the overwhelming feedback...conducted at the premier discussion point for Australian afols...over the course of an entire week...it seems that there are only two afols within earshot of Lugnet that would want to buy from (...)   Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) I expected the response to be not quite as great as the screams of anguish suggested, but this.... (...) Me neither :-( Still, all the more to spend on discounted sets! Cheers Richie Dulin (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) As I posted before, The head of LA... Steven got back to me a couple of weeks ago about this.... letting me know S@H WILL be in Aust by the end of the year.. Kev...: ) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

Hi Richard, As the only "lego direct" that we will ever have access to, will be part of either the EU/UK site or the US site with the associated "over the top" exchange rates and postage charges, I for one would rather they didn't bother offering (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

(...) *Jumps up off his seat* Oooh, ooh me too, me too. Better make that 3 :) (...) *Jaw drops* You're kidding? I posititvely need s@h so I can getsome nice bulk bricks in good colours. (...) I never saw the post until this morning. C'mon everyone, (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) I may have heard wrong, but didn't some people get an overseas order a short time ago and have to pay a heap in customs? If not then I'll have to get me a Canadian contact! (at least, till the end of the year, hopefully). ZaC Soden ---...--- (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) I have one 'yank' here at home, but I see no Lego from him :P (...) Well I imagine you didn't hear, but I guess you may of read! :P Yeah that was us up here and if you do this stuff, order in small quantities, under $200 and have it sent (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) I had a squiz at the s@h prices. They're pretty expensive once you convert them! I think that, for now at least, I may have to resort to using some cheaper Canadian brand stuff. *shock* *horror* :( ;) catch you around ZaC Soden ---...--- (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) Pretty scary prices for basic bricks. Lets hope the thread about the demise of the 1200 piece Blue Tub over in general isn't true, especially since it only made it to Aus this year. Though with the prices of the 4229 locally, it seems like a (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

(...) Especially if you divide the price by the total number of bricks, which is the standard practice (and the one which I use). Nevertheless, assigning a white 1x8 the same value as a blue 1x1 doesn't make for a fair comparison. With bulk bricks, (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Rule when making purchases from the US. Always have the sender declare the value as being under $100 US and describe the contents as "construction toy/parts" not lego. Canadians also have to pay GST on purchases made on behalf of Ozzys unlike in the (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Let's find out (was Re: Another Kick In The Guts By LA)

Personally I don't care in S@H was avaliable in Australia as long as the S@H exclusives where avaliable to us through LA or through the retail stores. There are some sets and bulk bricks that I want - I really want some of the new trains. I don't (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.loc.au)
