Jude,
Attached below is a copy of the email message sent to TLC on May 7 which
I alluded to last Friday here:
http://news.lugnet.com/lego/direct/?n=4651
Jake was basically to make a post about this late last week, but Suzanne and
I had comments on a couple things in the draft he ran by us that we wanted to
make sure were really super clear, and so it went past the weekend.
So in other words, no.

Dear Jarid,
The bulk discount coupon code mentioned above ("J2LUGNET") came to our
attention recently when someone noticed that it no longer appeared to be
functional. We found a reference to it in the article you posted on our
discussion group server in January.
This coupon was a very nice gesture for the fans and it is encouraging to
see this level of participation in the community by LEGO Direct.
However, it feels awkward to us when we see our trademark -- and the name
of our webiste -- used in a bulk discount coupon code, announced publicly,
without our prior knowledge or assent. As I'm sure you can appreciate,
the use of a non-TLC trademark in a TLC commerce situation contains the
potential to create confusion.
I would ask kindly that any future coupon codes you wish to create using the
name "LUGNET" be approved by either Suzanne Rich or myself, prior to their
public disclosure, so that we may be aware of such codes.

Jared, this may be an excellent opportunity for us to discuss how LEGO
Direct can benefit from compensating LUGNET financially for the use of
similarly named coupon codes in the future. For example, our database
containing information about LEGO building sets is accessed daily by
thousands of adults with impulsive spending habits. LEGO Direct could
gain additional marketing information via click-throughs, as well as
relieve itself of obsolete stock more rapidly, if our database could
help people find special offers on your website right from our database
webpages.
