Jake-
That April 1 post about the Dark Grey bucket got it just about right.
For each color on life support (dark gray, light gray, brown), make two tubs:
- Basic: Mostly bricks and plates and some slopes, tiles and cylinders
- Accessory: Everything else that you are willing to make
This makes only 6 SKUs, max. Start with dark gray, and thats only 2 SKUs a
season.
Make these tubs BIG. LEGO always points out that there is room for more bricks
in a tub. Put 5,000 bricks in these tubs (get the piece to packaging price ratio
down). List price $39.95.
Throw in a few chrome parts. People go nuts about crome parts and the 99% of the
folks out there who dont know what the hullabaloo is about will buy the buckets
just to get the chrome.
Rely on the secondary market to part these tubs out and satisfy the needs of all
us Serious LEGO Builders (SLBs) who need 47 of a piece that comes 1 per
Accessory tub.
Thanks for hearing our ideas.

| (...) Agree totally, the only proviso is, these must be available from retail outlets, not just Shop@Home, and also available in as many countries as possible, here in NZ we see very few (if any) of the bulk tubs. Thanks - Ken (21 years ago, 8-May-04, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general, FTX)

| Wow, what a crazy couple of days! 250 posts on a thread I started. I'm not sure where to feel shamed or proud. (I know, I know, all I should feel these days is shame) Since my fireproof suit is beginning to strain under the pressure, I'm going to (...)
