Ok, my thoughts on this:

First, I forget, are we talking about a range of parts that will be
available for a limited time in the old colors, or a set of parts that will
be available at least for a significant amount of time?

What would be most useful to me in old colors:

48x48 grey baseplate (other sizes also, but if we get a limited set of
parts, I'll cut up 48x48s)
Rectangular BURPs in grey and dark grey
Basic brick and plate selection in grey and dark grey (1x, 2x, 2x2 corner,
at least a few sizes of 4x and 6x plates)

Nice, but less important:

Basic brick and plate selection in brown (1x, 2x, 2x2 corner, at least a few
sizes of 4x and 6x plates)
Tiles (1x1, 1x2, 1x4, 1x6, 1x8, 2x2, 2x2 round)
Common specialty parts (clips, headlight bricks, jumper plates, 2x2 round
plates, 1x1 and 2x2 cylinders, 1x1 cones, etc.)
A selection of arches
A complete series of 45 and 33 degree slopes
A complete series of 75 degree slopes, including inverse (my only hope now
to complete my Red Seas Barracuda in the originally envisioned color
scheme - the one part I need for this is 1x2x3 inverse 75 degree slope in
old dark grey)

Note that my motivation for the above is that the new blue greys just don't
look right for rocks, and the parts listed in my priority list are those
that I would use the most in cliff construction. The new brown looks ok to
me for earth tones, so I'm willing to switch to it (and will mix and match
the two browns).

Things I don't care that much about:

Castle walls
Car chassis parts
Triangular BURPs

For migration to the new colors:

I don't have a specific list here, but a 1000 pc tub with 75% new greys, and
brown, with some other colors, priced at $50 or less, preferrably $20 (with
such a focused tub, I'd be willing to pay more - though it better not be
overloaded with 1x1s). I don't care too much about the specific parts
selection here, any selection will make it easier for me to build up the new
colors, and various specialty parts will become available as new sets roll
out, the purpose of this is to bulk up the collection.

Things I would love to see in some different colors:

48x48 baseplate in blue, brown, and green (oh, white would be cool also...)
9v Track in brown (otherwise switch to the new light grey as some have
suggested - dark grey just doesn't look right, even for concrete)

(...) I'll add my Amen to everything Frank mentioned, about both the old colours, and the new ones. I have a somewhat stronger desire to see castle walls, etc. be available in the old colours, but it's not nearly as critical as having a good (...) Wow, what a crazy couple of days! 250 posts on a thread I started. I'm not sure where to feel shamed or proud. (I know, I know, all I should feel these days is shame) Since my fireproof suit is beginning to strain under the pressure, I'm going to (...)
