I think its more an issue that they dont want to produce toys that look
like they can be used to emulate the modern warfare that they see on the
news and such. Nobody fights with bi-planes anymore, but fighter jets are
pretty much fighter jets - regardless of era. Same thing goes with tanks or
battleships.

The way Ive heard it is that they dont produce any weapons developed in
the 20th century or later, and that the only reason why we have the
Sopwith/Red Baron pair is because LEGO Direct operates under slightly
different rules when developing sets that are intended to be S@H exclusives.
This WWI vs. WWII theory might explain why they were able to get permission
to go ahead with them, but I think itll prove to be a bit more complicated
than tech-level alone. Even if our technology advances beyond the jet
airplane as a staple fighter platform, I doubt well see WWII-era military
vehicles produced as LEGO sets if it involves putting a swastika on the box.

I dont think TLC will even do such a thing! But that has not stopped others
from doing it already.
Like this guy:

In addition there has been at least 1 instance that I know on ebay in which
someone (do not remember the name and auction has long gone been pulled) was
selling a custom set of a German Army 88 Gun (very nice 88 gun with lots of
detail for minifig dimensions) with 3 SS Minifigs which had custom helments with
swastika and there was a flag with a swastika sticker.
Ebay made the seller pull the images and blur the swastika before he was able to
continue with the sell. I had the images somewhere but sadly can not find them
anymore.
In any case nobody is asking TLC to put swastikas on their boxes or stickers.
Making 20th century vehciles would be nice but dont hold your breath that TLC
will do them in the next 50 years.
