This whole issue leaves me unsure of where I stand. On the one hand, I
think people should be nice. On the other hand, a few people do seem to
constantly be whining that no one posts responses to their posts, or
that so and so is being mean for responding to a post with criticism
(and I'm not sure if Nick really fits in this category - there are folks
who I tend to ignore because they do constantly whine). In a face to
face community, there are gentle ways of dissuading whiners, but some
people still tend to whine even in face to face community. If it gets
bad enough, someone will say something, or that person stops being
invited to activities. Any community needs a way of setting standards of
behavior, and holding people to them. If we followed some of the whiners
requests, we would be burried under "gee, your XYZ is kinda nice." posts
(how many Lugnet members are there????).
Perhaps what those who want to call someone on their whininess should do
is post once. Then don't respond to defend yourself. If the whining
continues over a longer period, perhaps post again. Or perhaps raise an
issue in lugnet.admin.

| (...) Well, I think that is a major part of people posting their MOCs and sites here - they want to hear a kind word or two directed towards them. What is wrong with that? I like Nick's site - it was one of the first sites I linked to when I opened (...) (22 years ago, 16-Apr-03, to lugnet.general)
