Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —Lawrence Wilkes
2002 catalogue. Oh dear, dear, dear. Where did it all go so wrong? Sorry, I am disappointed so much I cant even be bothered to tell you why. lawrence (23 years ago, 11-Nov-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —Kevin Johnston
(...) Not answering for Lawrence; these are my opinions. After I read the catalog, I was struck (and dismayed) by one thing above all: No new major System theme entries for 2002, except Harry Potter (which debuted early for film schedule reasons). (...)          Re: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —Erik Olson
I saw an Adidas brick (white soccer barrier) in the K8 pile at Brickfest last July. I'm not a Soccer collector so I assumed it was nothing new. The other two soccer barriers I found were advertising Lego themes (Arctic for one.) Personally, I can (...) (23 years ago, 11-Nov-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.lego.direct)

(...) They do show some spark, but not quite enough. I have some interest in the squid vehicle, which uses some very un-lego-like elements, but I still like it because it has style up the wazoo.          Bulk vs. BrickBay (was: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks) —Tony Hafner
(...) Exactly- Lego sells sets to the mass market (where "mass" is a lot bigger than us). For some things that you can't get very well from parting out sets, Lego has put a high premium on them... and they sell. If you want a specific part that (...)       (...) Hello Tony, I explored the math behind this particular argument in a post to LUGNET about a month ago: (URL) think there is a strong case for the theory that they could actually be making even more money than they are now. Any time people are (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Bulk vs. BrickBay (was: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks) —Frank Filz
(...) This logic doesn't necessarily hold true. How many products are sold by company owned stores? Resellers abound in many markets, for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that they serve a niche part of some larger market. I (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —Kevin Johnston
(...) "System" to me is more about an interconnected play world, with original, open themes, than it is about the particular form of the figures. Playmobil has its own "system," for example. Lego could conceivably develop a new one based on a (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —John P. Henderson
(...) Indeed. They did it before. Ever see the figures available during the mid 1970's? They had Town sets, but no mini-fig as we think of it. And during the 80's, it wasn't called System with a logo. The boxes just had the word LEGOLAND stamped on (...) (23 years ago, 13-Nov-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.lego.direct)

RE: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —Bram Lambrecht

(...) My turn to disagree. :) I think they haven't had nearly enough constructive criticism here on LUGNET. Sure they've had some.           Re: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —Allan Bedford
(...) Agreed. You might go so far as to say one of the only things holding sales up is that some of the sets being sold contain some original style bricks which are still made of the original recipe. But of course my argument is that if the sets (...) (23 years ago, 14-Nov-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —Steve Bliss
(...) Disagree. Seems like in the last year or two, I've experienced (and heard about) many more problems with the bricks - warped pieces, mismolded parts, parts without 'clutch power' - than in previous years. I think LEGO has definitely cut (...) (23 years ago, 14-Nov-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Goodbye Lego and thanks for all the bricks —John P. Henderson
(...) My own experience does not reflect this. The last time I found a QA problem was with a few long 2X plates that were warped slightly and thus connected poorly -oddly enough this was in what now is considered one of the all time best sets -the (...)
