Most definately

Like half beams, they are very useful when you need to put another beam right
next to it, while stud beam need to be two plates apart.

They are also useful when you just need so sort of cage.
My take for truly bad pieces:
The throwbot "wing" piece, or the arms and legs of technic battle droid.
Ugly throwbot heads and face covers.
Big chunky robo raider body pieces.
Most large Znap pieces. Some curve ones are useful however.
