This Christmas I got NO I repeat NO Lego.
Gee I wonder if they have noticed that 6 ft long Lego ship sitting on the top
bed of my bunk bed. Maybe they just thought that 4558 Metroliner was my gift,
maybe they thought the dog dragged in that 1998 catalouge showing all the RESQ
sets, maybe they just thought that Ship was made out of Balsa wood, maybe they
just thought I needed more sweaters......
*sigh* Well there is always next year!

No Lego for me this year either.  'Course, all I really asked for
were books since, for me, Christmas is all year long when it comes
to buying what I want.  I got a few clothing items and some cash,
but by and large, what I got for my birthday and Christmas were
items off my Amazon.com wishlist.  People say I'm hard to shop for
because a) when I want something I buy it and b) they never know
what I want and they're afraid to buy me books or computer stuff
that they don't know anything about.  So I just picked a couple
dozen books and decided not to buy them but let family and friends
buy them for me.  Worked out great.

Off that list the ones I got that I looked the most forward to
reading were:

Annotated Dragonlance Chronicles
The Millionaire Next Door
The Business of Consulting
The Mindful Money Guide
Our Dumb Century

and a few others like the two latest books in the Left Behind series
and a couple of other books about consulting with 5 * large number
ratings at Amazon whose titles escape me at the moment.  Didn't get
the book on Castles or Medieval Weaponry, but that just means I'll
get them myself.

Now, things I got for myself during the birthday/Christmas period
(let's say beginning of December till ... last night):

36" Toshiba TV xxx51 (no need for dual tuner PiP - I hate sports)
Lexmark Z51
A new king size Simmons Beautyrest set (ok, that's for both of us)
Photoshop 5.5 Classroom in a Book
Toshiba SD6109C  DVD Player/Dolby Digital/DTS Receiver combo
Palm IIIx
2x APC BackUPS 650

and a whole lot of DVDs, most notably Ferris Bueller's Day Off,
Caligula (unrated - never saw it, got it for free, why not), and ...
The Mask.

No Lego, though.  Well, not from anyone else.  I think I did pick up
a few odds and ends during some of the weird TRU online sales and a
box or two from KBkids for some reason, but nothing major.  No deals
good enough to warrant it.  Why buy Lego at anything more expensive
than 50% off when I can get most anything else I want for that much
or less and get more/different fun out of it?  :)

Which reminds me, I have some Reel.com and Amazon.com gift
certificates I need to use so I can add to my collection of free
DVDs...

(...) Good book. Very interesting. (...) Never heard of that one. Sounds good (if not quite funny). (...) You really know how to pick out nice things for yourself. As for non-LEGO stuff I got...well...um...um...let's see...well...actually nothing (...) (24 years ago, 30-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)
