Well, I believe that that big grey zone is there because the people at TLC is just as uncertain on how to place the boundary as we are; not to terrorize us with having a secret boundary to sit behind anxiously waiting for the opportunity to punish some poor guy accidentally crossing it (foul play). So I don’t see any harm in exploring it, or maybe even defining it together, so let’s hear some opinions!

Considering the intent and contents of the FPP I would opt for interpreting the grey zone as a big area of slack TLC is giving AFOL’s to do whatever they want (as long as they don’t violates the intention): Not having lego written (directly) in the address is only the first line of defence against misunderstanding: Behind this the careful author creates several other, much more important, lines of defence, by creating the name, contents, disclaimers and appearance in a way that alerts the visitors that it isn’t an official page (for instance by not using the red logo) but a fancreated one: Most surfers will probably click on the link to see what the stuff is about rather than sit long time pondering over the address, so I would consider the address to be a minor issue as long as doesn’t look official and/or contain the four letters.

To take my page as an example: Like Lenny wrote, using l3go would only create a very small risk of confusion, but before the page could make some unwanted impact in the minds of the visitors, they would have to actually look at it: First of all it has a black background (not very lego-like), secondly it’s called “Sir Bugge’s Lego Page” = A person’s (not TLC’s) lego page, if you can’t read gothic, it’s also in the tile line. Thirdly, what does the first sentence say in big bold letters?: “Welcome to my page” and goes on with a long yadda yadda about how I build, and why I made the page: It’s not like I try to hide my identity (just see the ‘about me’ section) or pretend I’m talking on behalf of TLC! Furthermore I’ve got a disclaimer ready for the next upload.

I think that that should be sufficient to alert all visitors that this is an unofficial fancreated page, and those smart enough to figure out that the title signals something about lego are probably also smart enough to detect the obvious (and much more important) signals of unofficialness, so frankly I think it’s a little absurd to consider my page (placed on l3go) anywhere close to the border.

But let’s here some opinions!

Cheers NB

Judging by the reactions (or lack of) to my suggestion to move the page to a subdomain called l3go, I guess it'll be ok... Or is it? Last chance to complain before I commence the moveingprocess. Cheers NB (20 years ago, 20-Dec-04, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.dear-lego, FTX)

(...) I disagree - both about using "l3go" and about greater restrictions. Pushing towards an edge means that TLG will need to delinate it more clearly - which means less grey area. as for the "l3go", i think your average user would think something (...)
