 Dear LEGO / 1907 (-20)
Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

In lugnet.dear-lego, Richard Marchetti writes: I'm gonna skip most of the rest of your drivel and just focus on a few points. (...) calling (...) Who said they haven't. Not sure what this has to do with anything. Whether it's them calling us or them (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

Methinks he doth protest too much! A tad touchy about this subject aren't you, Larry? I label myself the "lego curmudgeon" which is intended to suggest that my incendiary mode of expression is half jest/whole earnest -- but not to be taken too (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

(...) that (...) True, it is their job to pay attention to what fans want, but the bottom line DOES show that. Profit is a measure of consumer satisfaction. The fact is that what WE want is not necessarily what the majority of Lego consumers want. (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

(...) I don't think that both sides in this debate are essentially disagreeing, just stating (seemingly) incompatible ideas. That is, I agree with both sides to some extent - I would like to see a "fair" distribution of LEGO, but I don't think there (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

(...) and I don't. I guess I'm rather put off by this attitude. Economic reality is what it is and your wishing that TLC cared about us to the point that they lose money isn't going to change that. And I'm tired of you whining about it. That's (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

Richard, I'm certainly not an economist, so my feelings are just a mildly educated opinion, but I don't think you will ever see any major company have a distribution channel like you want. It won't work. If it was such a good idea, retail outlets (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!

From what various people have said, I think that the people who were called were the people they happened to have phone numbers handy, who happened to be near the phone when they called. I haven't ordered that much from them (just 10 6038s out of (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

(...) Then they should catch a clue -- or is Brad Justus just a troll here? Is he just a plant to stem the tide of our venom as I already half suspect? I'm sorry, but I think it is very much TLC's job to pay attention to what we fans want, and not (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

(...) Yes, Lego does own the Outlet Stores itself. Jeff (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Re: Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

Richard: I am sorry, but you just don't get it. #1 - These are not "Rare, expensive sets" in Lego's eyes. These are sets that nobody wants to buy. That is why they are old. It is not TLC's job to watch ebay and Lugnet to find out how to "most (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!

(...) Oh HECK no, not as far as I am concerned ;-) Hence the smiley ;-) (...) And it really doesn't matter to me whether or not THEY called US, or WE called THEM. The fact is, whoever has the money at the time the set is available gets it, and it's (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Lego Direct (was Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!)

I don't begrudge anyone finding a good deal. But it would bother me to think that some few of us are favored by TLC because of their purchasing power. This is why I have and will continue to favor a Lego Direct arrangement in which TLC, or perhaps a (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !!

Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!

(...) I really do see what you're saying I guess it just doesn't ring through for me. I'm very much a non-shopping person. I know the KBToyWorks is in some sort of thing you would probably call an outlet mall. I've been there several times. I have (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!

(...) I would agree if the Lego Outlet store was out in the middle of a field somewhere. On some level though I think that they are not playing well with their community. It's great for the people that get called. It's great for Lego. It's aweful (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!

(...) Hrmmmm - I'm a little miffed I didn't get a call (I could have used some 6078's) but I don't agree with this. Just think about it. They know the stuff is coming in. They call two people who agree to buy all of some items. Those items come in (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

Re: Elements I'd like to see...

(...) I agree, fully and completely. I have actually thought of this before, but was at loss as to how I'd describe it... :oP ...my English isn't as good as I'd like it to be. :-. I'd want Nx3x1 slopes (@ *45* angle) with top MIDDLE studs, in order (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Elements I'd like to see...

Based on the 1x2 tile with center stud, I would really like to have 2x4 tiles with one row of centered studs (4 studs down the middle long ways). This piece would be great for adding detail to structures. My idea is to use them between rows of 2x (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!

(...) So get them to call you too, then buy enough that you sort to the top of the list. (...) Good advice (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Georgia LEGO Outlet is Cool!

(...) I would say that it IS a matter of blame, for the store. Lego is not playing very nicely in the local economy by mailing off inventory before it's even on the shelves. There are enough customers here in the local area(1) that would have bought (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !
