I'm certainly not an economist, so my feelings are just a mildly educated
opinion, but I don't think you will ever see any major company have a
distribution channel like you want. It won't work. If it was such a good
idea, retail outlets would be long gone.

I don't think that both sides in this debate are essentially disagreeing, just
stating (seemingly) incompatible ideas. That is, I agree with both sides to
some extent - I would like to see a "fair" distribution of LEGO, but I don't
think there should be any blame for the shop making the offer or the
individuals for accepting it.

That said, I disagree with the bit above on the grounds that because it hasn't
been done, doesn't mean to say that it won't or can't be achieved. The
evolutionary power of the Market is far more ingenious than we can predict,
even if it stays on certain 'evolutionary plateaus' for a while.

If the Internet does keep growing, and isn't overrun by sinister evil
mega-global corperations (AP), then businesses will have to compete on the
grounds of "give the customer what they want". Imagine being able to browse
through a (well-implemented) online LEGO catalogue, that's two to ten times the
size of the paper ones.. the more choice, the more people will be attracted. I
think this is also what was being hinted at in the recent LEGO CEO interview.
