From what various people have said, I think that the people who were called
were the people they happened to have phone numbers handy, who happened to
be near the phone when they called. I haven't ordered that much from them
(just 10 6038s out of their first batch after they had been announced on
Lugnet for several days). What I did do was call just before they closed (I
miss out on a lot of these deals because I'm such a lazy slug that I don't
have a telephone calling card so I have to call from home). They didn't have
time to fetch the sets and box them up and give me a shipping total, so they
took my number so they could call me back the next day to complete the
transaction. And out of this latest deal, I ordered a whopping TWO sets,
sure, they were the only two copies of a single desirable set, but I'll tell
you, I've been frustrated more often by missing deals than I have been
satisfied by landing deals (I'll also say that earlier this year when there
was a run of bad vibes hear that the thought of DESTROYING my LEGO
collection crossed my mind).

Where our frustration (and I've been frustrated at missing some of the DYA
deals) should be directed at is TLC. Why can't they do something so that
older sets can somehow be made available to us? Really all they need to do
is make the more unusual parts available somehow. If I knew that they would
take orders over the course of a year for certain parts, and do a bulk run
of custom order parts (which they got enough orders for) at some slack time
in their manufacturing run, I'd love it. There are a bunch of parts that I'd
be happy to place an order for knowing it might be a year before I got them.

Frank
who is starting to be sorry he pointed out one of the cool and responsive
ways TLC is being to us.

(...) I look forward to Lego deepening it's relationship w/ this community...I think it is a step in the right direction... I have a whole host of parts that I would like larger quantities of or in different colors... That said regarding the rest of (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !

(...) Oh HECK no, not as far as I am concerned ;-) Hence the smiley ;-) (...) And it really doesn't matter to me whether or not THEY called US, or WE called THEM. The fact is, whoever has the money at the time the set is available gets it, and it's (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.dear-lego) !
