  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Ah, yes. Even Target has those display cases, and they seem to have first appeared around the time of the color change if my memory serves me. (...) Yes, I mentioned this because I have known how surprising fluorescence can be since I was a (...) (17 years ago, 10-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) It's a definite possibility, and the only one that would mesh with the claim that they were bringing the three affected colors more in line with the rest of the color palette (even regular blue and dark-green have a distinct warm undertone and (...)   Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Do you suppose the real reason behind the color change was to make the product visually "jump off the shelves" under the crappy lighting in Wal-Mart? This would make more sense than any other rationale I've heard so far, except that you (...) (17 years ago, 10-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Try flourescent lighting sometime. I'm thoroughly convinced that any focus groups that might have been asked about the bleys vs. greys had to have been shown the different colors under standard cool-white flourescent lighting like you'd find (...) (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Heh, that's why I said "sometimes" :) I know there are those out there who can tell the colors apart better than I can. And I know there are those out there (some of the more colorblind of us) who have a very hard time with it. For instance, (...) (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) I only have trouble with the light greys. Dark Bley is an obviously different color to my eyes, and blown is different enough to be noticeable in most light- but the light greys give me fits even in sunlight. :-( (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) That's a bit of a generalization, I'd say. I can peg dark-grey vs. dark-bley every time, regardless of the lighting (well, as long as there is some, that is), and I'm very accurate with light-grey vs. light-bley under flourescent lighting and (...) (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) I agree that people won't know what "old" versus "new" means, but that's precisely the point I'm driving at. You *need* to know if you're a seller. So you have to go find out. If you call them "New Gray" and "Old Gray", you've successfully (...) (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) The trouble with this idea is that 'old' and 'new' grey only have meaning to those of us who have been around long enough to know the old from the new. Somebody coming into the hobby post-bley won't have any idea what distinguishes the two. I (...) (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) I'd been wondering about this myself, but I think I figured it out: "I may have to just bend over and take it." I think it has something to do with finding money on the sidewalk or something... (...) Hmm... with all the new colors out there, I (...) (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) I've got a few of those too. In every case, I send a friendly email, and the seller was happy to resolve the matter. (...) That's a new acronym. What does it stand for? My first experience with Blay was when I purchased a few sets from LS@H (...) (17 years ago, 9-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Personally, I think BrickLink needs to change their color names. Peeron approached this problem by VERY EXPLICITLY renaming "Gray" to "OldGray", "DkGray" to "OldDkGray" and "Brown" to "OldBrown". The problem is of course as you point out, that (...) (17 years ago, 8-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) snip The problem will get worst on BrickLink. As people or even new sellers find BrickLink and have 'no clue' about the color change. It make me wonder if BrickLink should add a 'warning' or 'disclaimer' about the color change for newbies. (...) (17 years ago, 8-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) i will admit that i use the new brown quite a bit for several reasons but the new grey's "blays" are not usefull . it's not that i haven't tried to use the new grey's they simply just don't look right. the only signifagant use of the new greys (...) (17 years ago, 8-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Hi, Baz. I was pretty upset when they launched the color change. It was the catalyst that pushed me away from the hobby for the last year or two. I still don't like the look of the new colors, and I hate the confusion of trying to keep the new (...) (17 years ago, 8-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

I will not adopt the new colors. There was no justifiable reason for them to be changed. All the suggestions I've heard as to why just do not make sense to me from a business standpoint. I associate the old brown and gray colors with my childhood. (...) (17 years ago, 8-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Its starting to happen...

Hi there, im first time writer, long time reader, Baz. I stayed quiet when Lego made the 'new' brown and grays. You all said what i was thinking. But. The other day I received a Lego part that was on Bricklink as Brown. Its reddish brown. So it (...) (17 years ago, 8-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Flesh colored bricks?

(...) Yes Aaron, your fairies made it into the Miniland NYC scene of "MidSummer Nights Dream" And I am proud to say that the retail kit Statue of Liberty that I glued back in 2001, was scavenged, repaired, and is now sitting in the Vegas Cluster, as (...) (18 years ago, 4-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Flesh colored bricks?

(...) I never minded either. Miniland and the traveling shows were inspirational, but I never believed I could build those from my personal collection. But I did have trouble being instructed to actually TELL visitors to the park that they could. (...) (18 years ago, 4-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Flesh colored bricks?

(...) As Aaron mentioned, the colors are actually not available. The miniland development DK(RIP) team has always had special access to off colors, for their special projects. And when a brick is not made in a certain color, and only a handful are (...) (18 years ago, 4-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)
