I'd just like to say that while I have been talking about stories, I do have my
own (neglected as it may be).  Don't take what I've been saying elsewhere to be
anti-story.

There have been a *lot* of stories written in the past few months. Without
mentioning names, the "fathers" of picture/non-picture storytelling have
been able to capture the imaginations of many, causing storytelling to
become a hot topic! <-- enthusiastic exclaimation.

As a matter of fact, it seems like every other post in lugnet.castle is
about, or in reply to someone's story.

With that said, I concur that lugnet.castle isn't the best place for story
time. Many enthusiasts just want to see MOC or discuss ways to enhance their
castle themes. Granted, I've seen some really cool MOC in the stories, but
I'd rather not have to read through chapters to get to them.

Personally I see stories as a type of MOC.  LEGO castle, especially following
the Black Monarch and certainly with Royal Knights and Knights Kingdom, has had
a focus on story.  Albeit simple, thematic stories rather than the epics we see
here.  Lego castle stories are a "my own" version of those stories (as well as
a "my own" version of popular fantasy/historical model).

Many MOC's come with their own story, and quite often I have a hard time
connecting with MOCs if there story is limited. If someone were to make some
building and say it is so-and-so's house and that explains this or that, the
MOC itself would become more meaningful if so-and-so had more depth, as such
explained in a story about said person.  I think that's kinda complex, here's a
sum-up: sometimes a good story will make a good MOC better.

Do stories need their own subgroup (lugnet.castle.ballads), or perhaps they
should be posted to the CastleWorld subgroup (I know some have done this).

Compartimentalization is complex, confusing, and because of this, elitist.
Lugnet becomes reserved only for the people who study it and spend the training
to figure out proper posting practices and whatnot.  Someone who only has one
of this or one of that to post, doesn't because of the bizarre and complicate
rules associated.

While I've been reading that Lugnet is going "downhill," i think .castle is not
because we don't have alot of the same problems the other subgroups have.
Another subgroup would only harm the happiness we have!

Besides it takes two seconds to seperate stories from MOCs.. use your eyes.
Either that or spend some time at announce.moc

I've found myself spending more time at Brickshelf checking out the MOCs;
because the MOC announcements in lugnet.castle seem to get lost within the
flurry of story-based comments.

Don't get me wrong, I think the stories are outstanding, but it seems like
that is all that lugnet.castle is anymore.

I agree that the stories have become overwhelming at times (especially with the
immeadiate popularity of IOM), and it can be daunting if what you want is not
what you find.  I just think stories and MOCs can coexist in a happy medium.

I'm not anti-story by any means. And quelching creativity is the last thing I'd ever want to do! From casual observation it appeared that the growing amount of stories might warrant a new group. For example, the growing amount of MECHA in (...) (22 years ago, 22-Mar-02, to lugnet.castle)
