I mean more like K-nex, and other such building systems?

Ryan Farrington has done exactly that:

Well, be danged, did not know that such files exisited, made the mistake of
telling my wife in earshot of my oldest son... he would not goto bed until I
downloaded them and promised to set them up so he can play with the tommorrow.

A further question, has someone come up with a program to help aid in design of
blocks? I am working on a set of blocks with stone textures on them. Any help,
would be great.

It depends on how you want to evoke the stone.  If the blocks are smooth
with printed stone, then you might be able to come up with a passable
rendition by inlining some POV-Ray code in the LDraw file, with which you
could simulate granite, brick, or marble finishes, to name a few. I know
you're not asking specifically about clone brands, but some of the
forthcoming clone DATs make use of inlined POV-Ray textures in this way.
If you're talking about actually shaping the blocks to represent true,
rough surfaces, then you've got a bigger task ahead of you.

Not sure what you mean by printed stone, chiseled stone is the most common
block face we deal with, I know the flagstone, fieldstone, cobblestone surfaces
are going to be a long drawn out process of hand coding lines, arcs, and 1-8th
spheres.. just dread doing it.

One last thing, metacommands, at least that I have found, are not that well
documented for such things, mind sharing what you know?

Thanks for the info,

Dwayne Miller

PS: if it helps anyone, webmaster just setup a primitive site search page at:
http://www.ldraw.org/temp/simple_search/
searches just the ldraw site, and works well. Promise to incorpeate it into the
main site was made.
