Greetings all,

Now, I am asking if there are plans to support other building systems, and I
dont just mean Mega Blocks or other generic Lego clones.

I mean more like K-nex, and other such building systems?

Ok, a more full explaination of why I am asking this is below my .sig, for
those who have interest.

I am asking if this group is willing to support such efforts, more than
anything else. Even if the support is unoffical, and that the parts resulting
from such never gain any offical sponsership or even mentioned on the website
or any place else.

A further question, has someone come up with a program to help aid in desgin of
blocks? I am working on a set of blocks with stone textures on them. Any help,
would be great.

Thanks for the bandwidth and hope I am not _too_ far off topic for this group,
it seems to be a diverse group with lots of projects going on and people from
all sorts of disiplines.

Ok, details on why I am asking this.
First, I work with a block building system that is far from mainstream, but
still availble commerically worldwide. The system is called CastleBlocks(TM),
and is found at http://www.hirstarts.com or http://www.castleblocks.com.
And no, I dont work for Mr. Hirst, or have any connection with his company.

Now there is an effort to take and make our own part files and such, but I am
unable to find much info that would be helpful for what we are doing.

URLs to such efforts are found in two places:
http://home.midsouth.rr.com/bfletcher/
(good instructions on setting up for CastleMolds)
and
http://www.voidgamers.com/channel/HirstArts/b.180.r.115.html
(Mostly a review and some extra block sets, I suggest getting Tony's block
sets, as his are most complete and the rest are not scaled to match his. There
are links to his Primitive sets as well, getting them is required)

With this limited resources, I send my plea to you good folks for assisstance.

One of the most important things that we are currently missing is a way to take
a block and add some form of texture, normally a cut stone, or a cobblestone
effect. If some help to make these availble without TONS of heavy math for each
part (there are not as many as there are lego parts, but enough), this would
help beyound belief. New blocks come out every other month or so, so its an
ongoing process to keep up, once we get caught up with whats currently availble.

I am still diving into the differant levels of the structure here, but I am
fairly sure I have a grasp of the BASICS, of the structure of how parts are
built, but not the finer points, I have even figured out how to use the basic
primitives, but still some of the finer points elude me.

I am contiuing my education, and have already made almost two dozen blocks for
our project (most are VERY simple blocks, but now to add a differant texture to
the surface, as thats the main differance between that and the lego blocks,
well that and the fact there are no studs and holes, these are put together
with glue).

Further questions on this project, help, suggestions, FAQs (beyound the ones
posted on ldraw.org), tutorials (again, beyound the ones on Ldraw.org), related
URLS, etc, would be greatly apprecated.

Thanks for your time, effort, and consideration,

Hi all, I think Dwayne brings up a very interesting topic. Although I am more of an "outsider" to the CAD community (principally because my skills simply don't match the superior ones found here, at least for now); I have recently spent quite a bit (...) (22 years ago, 6-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.dev)
