Re: bug report: "cert." list on tracker

Steve, I see these as two separate issues: 1. The new version of the n-4disc files. 2. New versions of previously-existing primitives being considered "subfiles". Issue #1 is a current example illustrating issue #2. (Previously, the "BFC" primitives (...) (22 years ago, 8-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: bug report: "cert." list on tracker

Franklin: Quit complaining and work on getting the unofficial primitives resolved! Then they won't affect other files on the tracker. Slapping a "hold" on them doesn't *really* resolve anything. Let's try it this way: Mark has made some changes to (...) (22 years ago, 8-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: The Ldraw future (was: Idea, using functions for some primitives.)

(...) I'd disagree with this. "Dithered colors" has been part of the "standard" LDraw package ever since I started playing with it. The only (minor/potential) problem with using dithered colors is that you have to stick the darned code for the (...) (22 years ago, 8-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: bug report: "cert." list on tracker

(...) Most of these "related files" *ALREADY* have correct dependencies, I'd wager. I know that I personally almost *always* use the relevant non-disc primitive whenever I use a disc primitive. (...) I agree 100 percent! (And I'll continue to (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: A comprehensive LDraw object model

(...) Okay, this thread is way too old and I feel that I owe an explanation for my tardiness. I apologize to everyone who was looking forward to a usable prototype; I hope I didn't set expectations too high. Lately, I've been heavily involved in (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Type 5 lines at the edge of primitives  [DAT]

(...) There are too many numbers in the 2nd cylinder line. Cut and paste error? Give this one a spin. I think what he's trying to show is the type 5 line where the 2 quarter cylinders meet. 0 1 16 0 0 0 10 0 0 0 10 0 0 0 10 1-4cyli.dat 1 16 0 0 20 0 (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: bug report: "cert." list on tracker

(...) I can see your point, but if we wanted the parts to have "correct" dependencies, then files specifically requiring the new versions would have to be treated differently. This mainly applies to BFC certification, where a new part requires the (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Type 5 lines at the edge of primitives

(...) I'm not following the problem with this one. Then again, I'm not sure where lines are supposed to be, and where they aren't--the construct is a bit abstract. (...) Hmm. The only way to avoid this problem is to not include the edge lines in the (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: The Ldraw future (was: Idea, using functions for some primitives.)

I completly agree with Tim, with one exception. The Lego parts coming out now are especially complex and involve patterns and colors that extend beyond the original LDraw colors set forth in James's program. I think a relaxation of the hard coded (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Idea, using functions for some primitives.

(...) By all means, a good discussion :-) (...) Here's how I see it. As a community we need to answer this question and act accordingly. What is the role of 'LDraw?' I see 'LDraw' as the file format and parts library, and its role is as a foundation (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Idea, using functions for some primitives.

Time to throw fuel on the fire. Why are we still latching ourselves on to the original dos LDRAW program. Isn't it time the LDraw community graduated to Windows/Mac based programs and let the DOS program fade away from usage. Much like other (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Idea, using functions for some primitives.

(...) Hi Mark, My two questions are: 1. How would behave the original LDraw program regarding this proposed extension? 2. How would you ensure meaningful polygon decomposition? In particular how would you ensure correct assembling of primitives and (...) (22 years ago, 6-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: bug report: "cert." list on tracker

Franklin, In your estimatation, how many files are waiting for fixed primitives to be certified? Right now, of the 77 primitives on the system, I count 7 as being fixes. Here's another viewpoint: Any primitive files in the PT system *should* have a (...) (22 years ago, 6-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Idea, using functions for some primitives.

(...) For a linetype to include a 'function' in it's definition, we'd need to figure out what 'language' the functions would be written in. It's a fairly wide-open proposal. More likely, we'll add specific curved-surface primitives[1] at some point. (...) (22 years ago, 6-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Type 5 lines at the edge of primitives

These cooperating type 5 control points give us both first order continuity between the cylinder and the tangent plane, AND 2nd order continuity between adjacent cylinder parts. All with just a few small changes to a (...) (22 years ago, 6-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
