In my opinion, *none* of these "related files" should be labelled
as having "uncertified subfiles" (assuming no other subfiles than
these six primitives), because each of these six primitives has
a *good*, working version already released.  Right?

I can see your point, but if we wanted the parts to have "correct"
dependencies, then files specifically requiring the new versions would have
to be treated differently.  This mainly applies to BFC certification, where
a new part requires the new primitive but the old primitive is fine for
other parts on the tracker.

Most of these "related files" *ALREADY* have correct dependencies,
I'd wager.  I know that I personally almost *always* use the relevant
non-disc primitive whenever I use a disc primitive.

I'd like to see:
1: Minimize primitive updates.  The current BFC push seems worthy,
but I'm not convinced that we need to fix things like merging triangles
in discs into quads or renaming ring files to the 4-4ring convention.

I agree 100 percent!  (And I'll continue to maintain a "hold" vote
on any such primitive, myself.  IIRC, at least one of the LCAD programmers
has stated in a message posted here in LUGNet that quads are converted
into triangles anyway at time of rendering, so converting triangles
to quads in the primitive is a useless waste!  I'd rather spend the
one or two kilobytes to be saved if it improves my rendering time.)

2: Get enough reviewers prepared for the updates such that they
can be certified within a day or two and make the point moot.

I'd not disagree with this one, either.  ;-D

3: If an updated primitive gets a hold vote, drop it from the
tracker immediately so that it doesn't gum up the works.

"Off with their heads!"???...  I could probably be talked into
this one, also...  ;-)

Thanks,
Franklin

Franklin: Quit complaining and work on getting the unofficial primitives resolved! Then they won't affect other files on the tracker. Slapping a "hold" on them doesn't *really* resolve anything. Let's try it this way: Mark has made some changes to (...) (22 years ago, 8-May-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)
