I can absolutely confirm that Legos Danish-to-English part name translations
dont usually come out very well from my work on the Technic parts registry.
It used to be that I tried very hard to get "official" Lego names for all of
the parts in the registry (and the registry is still at least 50% US Lego
translations from the Danish) but finally gave up when I realized that my
own names were much more descriptive.
From what I have been able to gather names are typically standardized to a
short 'run' of similar pieces (maybe 3 or 4). Another major problem with Lego's
nomenclature is that several pieces will have exactly the same name (I know
of at least 5 different Technic pieces called simply 'steering gear'.
Now I cant say that I always agree with the LDraw part names I still think
you are better off making Lego standardize to YOUR names.

| (...) So, what did he say about MLCad / LDraw? Did he make any comments comparing TLC's software to LCAD? Does he do stuff in MLCad because he enjoys it, or just as a matter of keeping aware of what's going on? (...) Drat! One thing I like about (...) (26 years ago, 25-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)
