I believe their use of the software is cumbersome and limited, because even
though they have state of the art CAD systems, they still print out LARGE
sheets of brick graph paper (~6' wide plotter) with images on them and trace
the studs. Plus, when you're doing something huge, you probably don't have
the time/computing power to design it all in 3D. They're Good Enough
(actually excellent) artists and sculptors that they can take the brick and
with little planning come up with something amazing. One of the models there,
a little girl sitting cross-legged holding a dog, was done when a little girl
(probably 5-10) was in the shop for a tour. The designer told her to sit down
and he started building.
Most of their models they do take the time to plan out in advance. Also -
they build a model for a specific purpose - not to be as functional as
possible to scale. If it doesn't need to move (example - shuttle Tyderian for
the soccer truck - the prototype was there and we talked about it), they don't
make it moveable. This shuttle the wings didn't fold down, but it was amazing.

Yeah. I definitely want to continue to talk to them and gather their opinions
whereever they're allowed to talk about it. Knowing people inside is a very
good resource for feedback to make what we have better. And, with Lego Direct
and increased communication, hopefully the relationship built will be better
for LCAD as well.
Gotta run!
