  LPub 2.4.8.0 available

Hi, I just released a new version of LPub. This version: - Does not require POV-Ray - Adds support for callout and multi_step step_number placement separate from that for normal single step pages. - Fixed bugs in pointer placement. (URL) (19 years ago, 12-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Kevin, As always, I want you to know how much I appreciate (and use) your program. But I have a silly question. :) If it doesn't require POV-Ray, then what is it calling to do the rendering? Best regards, Allan B. (19 years ago, 12-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Hi Allan, I collaborated with the authors of LDGLite, and LDView, and they can be used as renderers now too. Relative to POV-Ray, they have the advantage of speed, and support the concept of edge lines without having to resort to a heuristic (...) (19 years ago, 12-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Ahhhh..... :) Sounds like I need to update my installations of various apps. So in talking about "edge lines" am I correct to think that this is for the more traditional type of instruction images... i.e. the more cartoon-like and less (...) (19 years ago, 12-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) You are correct. Using LDGLite and LDView (with the proper settings), can give you building instructions in a style much more like those produced by LEGO. LDGLite is blindingly fast, and a welcome change. (...) Kevin (19 years ago, 12-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Kevin actually has samples on his Brickshelf account of what LDGLite and LDView rendering look like in LPub: (URL) LDView> (URL) LDGLite> --Travis (19 years ago, 13-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

Its interesting to see the two side by side. It appears that LDGLite has better shading, but LDView is smoother on the outlines. Is there antialiasing on LDView then? Danny -- (URL) - Build Robots (...) (19 years ago, 15-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Well, antialiasing is turned on in both renderers. However, the antialiasing definitely isn't the same in both. Maybe the LDView one is done with full-scene antialiasing and the LDGLite one is done with line antialiasing. It's interesting how (...) (19 years ago, 15-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Just as a note, LDView might go marginally faster with the addition of a -MemoryUsage=0 command line argument (or setting the memory usage to Low in the LPub preference set inside the LDView UI). While it's counter-intuitive that instructing (...) (19 years ago, 16-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) That may well explain it. (...) Actually -looking again - LDGLite is smoother, but LDview seems to make less of a mess when axles meet axle holes. It was that I noted really when mentioning smoothness. Looking at the step 48 image from both (...) (19 years ago, 16-Oct-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Hi Kevin, I'm finally hoping to give ldglite a try. (Yes, I know this is an old thread, but it came up when I searched.) :) So I have ldglite downloaded and have extracted the .exe and the .dll that were in the zip file. Stupid question... but (...) (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) I let Kevin answer other questions... but to get you started, here is the configuration: In "renderer" tab, press the "LDGLite" button. You should get a dialog box asking for the location of LDGLite executable file. After that, you just have (...) (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) On the Rendering tab I only have drop-down boxes and check boxes. There are no buttons. I'm wondering if this is a version issue? Is the ldglite button present in a more recent version of LPub? Thanks! Allan (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) I have the 2.4.8.0. But there is a tab in tab! there is a "LDGLite/LDView" subtab in "renderer" tab. Maybe you missed that? Philo (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) That tab is only to allow custom options to be sent to the renderer - the buttons to provide the renderer executable details should be beside the drop-down box. And it should be present in all 2.4.x versions I think, but Kevin could confirm (...) (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) I'm currently sitting at version 2.2.0.0. Is it necessary to upgrade to ver 2.4.8.0 in order to implement ldglite as the renderer? Or can it be done using the version of LPub I have installed now? I'm a bit nervous about upgrading, since I am (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) I'm pretty sure ldglite support was added after 2.2 (...) Well, I must admit I have had my share of LPub installation and use problems, but I do think they've decreased over time, so I'd probably recommend the upgrade. (...) Well, the ldglite (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

I downloaded and installed LPub ver 2.3.0.10 (that's the version I found linked from the page at the very beginning of this thread) It does have that ldglite button. I used the button to show it where ldglite is installed. It now allows me to pick (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) This page (URL) has a link to version 2.4.10.0, I would recommend upgrading all the way. (...) Does it actually call povray, or just give messages "Creating X.POV"? LPub still creates the POV files, even if it's using a different renderer. (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Yup, that's the page I used. And the install .exe is called LPub_2_4_10_0_setup.exe. But when I do Help > About it says it's ver 2.3.0.10. Now I'm really confused. :) (...) It seems to call POV-Ray on some attempts. Then on other attempts it (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) Hmmm yeah me too - I must admit I didn't actually try that link, I'm still using 2.4.8.0. You might have success changing the 10 in that URL to an 8. (...) Hmmmm not sure, What version ldglite do you have installed? What options are set in (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) I've never used LPub much. I did use it when working out getting LDView to work as a renderer. Ironically, despite the amount of time I've spent developing LDView, I don't make many LDraw models. I just tried LPub to see if I had problems. It (...)   Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) I can definitely answer "yes" to this one. Probably 90 - 95% of my CAD work is driven by the need to create instructions. I've worked with LPub and POV-Ray (and MEGA POV-Ray) for a couple of years now. But as noted elsewhere I'm really trying (...) (18 years ago, 3-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available

(...) We are still a team aren't we? Hmmmm...... in your absence I have made some changes related to PLI, and Layout, so we'll have to reconoiter. I fixed a number of memory leaks also. I could see LPub having a "just building instructions" mode, (...) (18 years ago, 3-Jun-06, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LPub 2.4.8.0 available
