  Re: SVG renders possible?

(...) LDView actually has experimental support for this built-in (although it has to be manually enabled via either a command line switch or a registry setting). Unfortunately, it's effectively useless on anything other than individual parts due to (...) (13 years ago, 1-Apr-11, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: SVG renders possible?

(...) Rendering from 3D to 2D vector graphics should be possible: (URL) I don't know how efficient it is. --Bram (13 years ago, 1-Apr-11, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  SVG renders possible?

Is it possible to create a SVG version of a rendering of an LDRaw model? I am only interested in the visible portion, such as what you see from one of the several default views (front, left, back, etc.). -Mike (13 years ago, 31-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Lego globe...

(...) awesome! It would be cool if you could submit a building as part of your LUGNET membership. (...) Way above my skill level unfortunately. -Mike (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Heightfields in LDraw

(...) I split the terrain mesh into many pieces and it renders much more quickly now. It still takes a while to load initially though. -Mike (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

  Re: LDView requests

(...) I'll keep it in mind. (...) My development code has a new feature that will be in LDView 4.2 called "Keep Right Side Up". When in fly-through mode, if you enable this feature, the camera isn't allowed to roll side to side at all. However, it (...) (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Lego globe...

(...) I like the idea of a Lego globe or world! Having recently been involved in building an OpenStreetMap tileserver I came across the following project that might be of interest: Isometric 3D map of Czech Republic (URL) this page that gives you a (...) (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Heightfields in LDraw

(...) I found the sources, and did a quick fix (no hardcoded files anymore). It still only generates a BlockCAD .LGO file but that is easily translated to LDRAW with BlockCAD. (URL) no part optimizing - the whole landscape is built with 1x1 bricks (...) (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Lego globe...

(...) I think it was just a silly question, sorry. I meant somewhere in between the 3-D globe and 2-D map... but you can't really apply a square map to a round globe without squishing things. :) -Mike (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LDView requests

(...) Some more requests while I'm at it. You currently have a camera mode that limits the "Examine mode" to exactly horizontal and vertical movement. If you could do something similar for the "Fly-through mode", such that regardless of where the (...) (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Animated minfigs

(...) Hmm, I don't think that would work too well - inevitably the action you want will be slightly different from the action you have in the library (e.g. each minifig action will require 4 different animation sequences, depending on whether he has (...) (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Heightfields in LDraw

(...) It could be nice if the tool switched between polygons and studs depending on the slope of the terrain. I like how some of the molded TLG baseplates aren't entirely covered by studs and have some empty spaces. -Mike (13 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Primitives and long file names

(...) <snip> (...) Didn't mean to cause nightmares :) But if your program is doing 'special' stuff for those kinds of folders, does it handle use of relative folders in models etc correctly? Cause you could supply a model e.g. d:\mystuff\coolCar.dat (...) (13 years ago, 29-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Heightfields in LDraw

(...) A long time ago I wrote a terrain generator whose final output was a BlockCAD file. The surface of the landscape was built up with 1x1 bricks and tiles. I belive I also had the possibility to generate bricks all the way up from the bottom, but (...) (13 years ago, 29-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Lego globe...

(...) I guess that depends on whether you're talking about a 3-D LEGO globe or a 2-D LEGO map? I'm not sure I quite follow exactly what you're trying to do. I played around a while ago and got a program that would build an LDraw globe based on a 2-D (...) (13 years ago, 29-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Primitives and long file names

(...) Nooo...ooo! Please......... Do not make lDraw folder structure more complex than what is now: If you follow the rules of using separates folder for Unofficial files (like SR3DBuilder does), it will make things harder to manage since my (...) (13 years ago, 29-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Heightfields in LDraw

I've been experimenting with importing terrain heightfields into LDraw. Here are the results: (URL) (One pair of triangles in the terrain mesh is equal to a normal LDraw baseplate in dimensions.) The steps I took: created the heightfield in Wilbur (...) (13 years ago, 28-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

  Lego globe...

If you were to create a computer simulation of a globe completely made of Legp with cities on it and everything, how would you overcome the limitation imposed by the fact that you can't tile squares across the surface of the globe? Are there (...) (13 years ago, 28-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)
