A long time ago I wrote a terrain generator whose final output was a
BlockCAD file. The surface of the landscape was built up with 1x1 bricks and
tiles. I belive I also had the possibility to generate bricks all the way up
from the bottom, but removed it because too many parts made BlockCAD slow.
An example of a generated landscape viewed in BlockCAD can be seen here

As BlockCAD can save in LDRAW format, it would be quite quick to get such a
landscape into an LDRAW editor.
I could probably find the sources (Delphi) and touch up the program a bit -
as I remember it stored the result in a hardcoded place on my
prev-prev-previous computer, and as it was quite some time ago, there were
probably a very small limit on the size of the landscape (maybe 64x64, I
don't remember).

| (...) It could be nice if the tool switched between polygons and studs depending on the slope of the terrain. I like how some of the molded TLG baseplates aren't entirely covered by studs and have some empty spaces. -Mike (14 years ago, 30-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)
