A recent development that I found slightly disturbing though was the thread
(cum flame war) about avatar images at BrickShelf. Several posters stated
their distaste for mecha as displayed at BrickShelf when providing examples
of things they didn't like seeing there. What is up with that? Was anyone
else aware of this dislike of the mecha models? I thought the genré was well
accepted, myself...especially given the almost total "fan-only" mentality of
the overall theme (i.e. LEGO doesn't really do mecha...the small group of
fans making MOCs is the only real action in mecha). Anyway, weird, huh?

1.  Hmm... It's probably a good thing I din't catch that.  I just made a little
experiment on my mother.  I showed her a military space ship and a military
mech and her responce was that the mech was simply too good and it was too
obvious that it was a war machine.  As I have stated before, mecha are
incredibely efficient and vicious machines for war, and that is so obvious in
any well designed military mech, that it is down rights scary.  Come on!
Honestly, who the hell in Binocle, Space, etc, etc, has anything that can match
mechs?  Even the largest of capital ships are no match for a much smaller than
its size MS or mobile armor.

2.  On a side note, some of our members here do not get along with the Binocle
sets (I am refering mainly to myself here).  I remember critisizing the Binocle
series on more than one occasion, and as long as that pathetic excuse for
"Lego" is still manufactured, I will continue to critisize it.  Well, not
really, if these guys are indeed trying to "get back at us", then I will have
to refrain from commenting on the new Lego sets in the future.

3.  Yet another reason for critising mecha is the sheer complexity of just
building one.  I have seen quite alot of people being rejected or afraid to
post here because they are afraid that their creations simply can not match the
unquestionably very high standart that has been set here.  From our
perspective, having this standard is an excellent thing, however, it does make
life much harder on the new comers.  I read all too often people wining about
how their mecha are overshadowed or ignored because someone had build something
better and posted it at the same time (I myself think that all of this is
nonsense, and that all of the mecha here have recieved a high number of warm
comments).

4.  Finally, I myself completely rejected mecha, Mobile Suits, Gundams,
Transformers, etc., until very recently.  I was a die hard Star Wars and for
several years I had some of the largest capital ships made by Lego.  If a
person does not understand mechs, then they simply don't.  Its like showing a
shotgun to a medievil man, he isn't going to understand you or the weapon and
will prefer his sword instead.  For me the turning point was when a certain
individual fired his canon and destroyed two Aeries in one shot, wchich was
viewed as not being too shaby.  With the continious expansion of Anime (now
reaching all the way into Eastern Europe) more and more people will be
converted to our cause.

I have only writen so much, because for some odd reason I was thinking about
nearly the same thing yesterday, and I do not expect anyone to read all of this
either.

Now enough of this nonsence, go back to building more mechs ::)

(...) This actually makes me very sad. I've noticed a couple people mention that they won't be building mecha anymore and that is a great loss to the build.mecha community. (...) Now this is completly subjective and open to debate. I personally build what most people consider "cute" and/or "little" fighters. To me they are able to kill almost any other fighter or mech(a) with one shot. Hey my "Empire" the Galactic (...) (22 years ago, 9-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Having been busy with BricksWest, I haven't had a chance to be very active here, let alone the rest of LUGNET (or build anything new, for that matter). I just wanted to tip my hat to some of the wonderful creations that have been introduced here (...) (22 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
