Hmm.. it may have something to do with the apparent stereotype that anime is
just a mere baby's cartoon. It has to do with the fact that anime are often
connected with mecha, as several cartoons are based on such creations
(Gundam series, Zoids, Escaflowne, and probably some others). Of course
that's just a theory. But in general I think the building of mecha take the
most skill, because you have to take into account more than just how it
looks and how many weapons it has.
Mecha require stability and flexibility, so really the skill is to find a
midpoint, were your mecha is posable, yet can stil remain in that pose
without falling over like a ragdoll. With space cruisers and battle tanks,
this is something you don't have to think about. Really, if I were some
silly parenty speculating about this situation, I would just say it was a
mere case of jealousy. But also do not let this discourage the great mecha
builders out there. (Mladen, Chris, Stuart, Geordan, others, and hopefully
some day me) I think we all have the determination to make mecha an accepted
genre among everyone, separating it from the its connection with Anime (so
mecha isn't a dependent on anime) and creating an entirely new plane of
building, which exists yet isn't widely accepted. I'm actually surprised at
this dislike for mecha, but perhaps it's only displayed in a small number of
people.I'm going ot keep on building mecha. Of course I probably won't be at
BricksWest (or whatever that is, I'm still a tad bit illiterate to all the
big lego conventions), but nonetheless my small support goes out to the
mecha genre. *curses lack of digital camera* Anyway RANDOM ON!

| Having been busy with BricksWest, I haven't had a chance to be very active here, let alone the rest of LUGNET (or build anything new, for that matter). I just wanted to tip my hat to some of the wonderful creations that have been introduced here (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
