<sniped bulk of well-said argument against Scott's proposal>
I don't see any reason for changing the theme groups' charter. In your
original post, Scott, you did not give one reason for this. Why would we
want this? If you have reasons, please mention them. Right now, I can't
figure out any good things coming out of this other than the benefits of
private auction sellers.

To ensure buyers are fully aware of what is available.

If buyers *want* to be aware of what's available, they can consciously go to
lugnet.market and search whatever they want to find.

Well said, Shiri.  This to me, is the crux of the whole thing.  Lugnet was (at
least partly) created as a response to the fact that RTL was/is unsegmented,
and by default, means people have to read, or filter, content they don't want
to see.  A great deal of the content that people were objecting to is market-
related traffic.  It was/is enough of a problem that a seperate Usenet forum
was proposed (rec.toys.lego.market) at *least* once that I'm aware of.

Part of Lugnet's design philosophy is the seperation of discussion and
marketing.  Frankly, I don't think you're going to get anywhere with a
suggestion that brings the two closer together, or blurs the line, and also, I
don't think such a proposal *should* get anywhere.

If you want to see market and discussion intermingled, go to RTL.

Frankly, I don't see why you're continuing to defend an idea that has zero
public support, and such obvious public opposition.

(...) I’d be mad if I thought this would work. I suppose I really just wanted to see what the range of opinion is. The RTL point raised a few times is hard to argue against as it is very much a “chicken & egg” issue (IMO). If LUGNet does continue to (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) The reference is to auction posts of any kind, whether they are considered spam or not is irrelevant and depends on each individual. (...) I'll quote your original post and reply to that, if you don't mind: "I suggest the pre-auction (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
