Have you checked out any of the already-existing "text to html" converters
out there?

I've been trying out various template/markup schemes for my own webpages
(since hand-coding html simply doesn't scale beyond a few pages), and I
came across these two:

HTML::FromText -
   http://www.cpan.org/authors/id/G/GD/GDR/HTML-FromText-1.004.readme

txt2html -
   http://www.thehouse.org/txt2html/

Thanks for the URLs! -- I'll go have a look.  I'm skeptical that anything
existing out there will be able to handle URLs precisely the way I need
them to work, but maybe the authors allow extraction of bits & pieces of
their code, if anything should happen to be particularly useful for mixing
and matching.  If anything, at least seeing some other alternatives is good
additional inspiration.

AFAICT, both do what you've already coded up.

The same syntax?  Naw...

Anyhoo, I'm not sure where you're at with a decision on this, but I just
wanted to let you know that this wheel's already been invented a few times
already.  :^)

I'll bet thousands of times!  All the way back to the 1950's...  :-)
